What would be a good video, youtube or other, explaining the final week of Jesus? My wife wants something visual to help her understand the timeline and events.

What would be a good video, youtube or other, explaining the final week of Jesus? My wife wants something visual to help her understand the timeline and events.

The best video I have seen explaining how to count the events of Jesus' crucifixion, death, and Resurrection as 3 whole days and 3 whole nights is this one:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EmtyYqq11Qc

As good as the video is, it doesn't reconcile the Synoptic events with John's account. For John doesn't have Jesus celebrating his last meal with the disciples (i.e. the Last Supper) as a Passover meal. In his account, the trial and crucifixion takes place a whole day BEFORE Passover, on the "day of Preparation" and not on the Passover itself. It is only John's account that has Jesus' death coincide with the slaughtering of the paschal lamb (which takes place on "the day of Preparation"). The Synoptic account misses that symbolism completely.

To date, despite the voluminous secondary literature on the subject, nobody has satisfactorily reconciled the two accounts. The only person to come close to a resolution was Annie Jaubert's chronology. But in her account, it requires John to follow a different calendar (a solar calendar of 364 days as per Jubbilees and the community at Qumran) than the Synoptic's calendar (the "official" Jewish lunar calendar of 354 days). This has not proved satisfactory with scholars for there is no indication that Jesus followed a different calendar than the "official" one.

I recently discovered I have a print volume in my personal library published in 1942 in an edition of 2000 copies.

    The publisher was Loizeaux Brothers.

Title:  Three Days in the Grave

    Pages: 159

    Author: Roy M. Allen

Includes a fold-out chart of the chronology.

I have been reading and rereading this book for the past month. I believe it may be the most thorough presentation and discussion of the Passion Week chronology available. It presents each of three major options carefully, with the arguments and Bible evidence claimed for each view. The author also gives the flaws for two of the views (the Wednesday and the Friday views). The author concludes that the Thursday view, though less known, is the correct position.

Mr. Roy Allen was a scientist by profession, a physicist, who authored articles on the subject of optics in the Britannica encyclopedia, if I recall correctly from information on the dust jacket (which I have mislaid temporarily--I removed it when I began reading the book to keep the dust cover in better condition).

A central Bible text which initially caught the author's attention and led to a study of many years' duration is Luke 24:21.

Thanks, Jerome, for posting this. I was so hoping that I could find this book in a digital format (as it sounded so interesting), but to no avail. [:(] I start teaching this Sunday on Luke 22 and so we will be taking it slow through these last 3 chapters...I am sure we will be here for a few months!

The first major question I am working on now is how could Jesus eat the Passover meal (which He does) if He is supposed to be crucified when the Passover lambs were being sacrificing? I've got a few more days for the Lord to show me the answer! [:)]

I love studying the Word! Such a challenge, but always a blessing...especially when you "suddenly" see how it all fits together!

  • A milestone search idea is three nights within the Gospels:

    "three nights" WITHIN {Milestone <Mt-Jn>}

Observation: while a period of 26 hours can include portions of three days while lacking portions of three nights.

    Another search is:

    Thursday NEAR crucifixion

Possibility for literal Yonah (Jonah) prophecy fulfillment of 3 days and 3 nights in the first month of Nissan along with Yeshua (Jesus) being the Passover lamb (for the world) chosen on the 10th and killed on the 14th:

    • 10 Sat Sunset - Sun Sunset = Hosanna entry into Jerusalem on a donkey (lamb chosen Ex 12:1-5)
    • 11 Sun Sunset - Mon Sunset
    • 12 Mon Sunset - Tue Sunset
    • 13 Tues Sunset - Wed Sunset
    • 14 Wed Sunset - Thu Sunset = Pesach (Passover) Last Supper Wed evening. Yeshua death Thu (1st day in tomb)
    • 15 Thu Sunset - Fri Sunset = Special Holy Day (Sabbath) per Leviticus 23:6-7 (1st night & 2nd day in tomb)
    • 16 Fri Sunset - Sat Sunset = Weekly Sabbath (2nd night & 3rd day in tomb)
    • 17 Sat Sunset - Sun Sunset = Resurrection on 3rd night with stone rolled away before sunrise

Personally guess body was in the tomb about 50 hours. Resurrected body could leave tomb without stone being rolled away (for night prayer communion with God the Father and Holy Spirit). While women are buying/preparing spices Sat evening, Yeshua could already be Risen.

Created thread => PB: Passion Harmony Gospels that includes observation: lemma σάββατον for Sabbath is typically translated into English Sabbath (singular) without respect to singular or plural usage in Greek.

    Keep Smiling [:)]

I would be happy to assist you with any questions you have that my print resource might answer. Just post a question at my site at www.realbiblestudy.com where my latest post is about Luke 24:21. You can post anywhere, though many initially post under the "about the author" page.

My book (Three Days in the Grave by Roy M. Allen) does convincingly answer the question you have raised about whether or not Jesus ate the Passover meal.
