As good as the video is, it doesn't reconcile the Synoptic events with John's account. For John doesn't have Jesus celebrating his last meal with the disciples (i.e. the Last Supper) as a Passover meal. In his account, the trial and crucifixion takes place a whole day BEFORE Passover, on the "day of Preparation" and not on the Passover itself. It is only John's account that has Jesus' death coincide with the slaughtering of the paschal lamb (which takes place on "the day of Preparation"). The Synoptic account misses that symbolism completely.

To date, despite the voluminous secondary literature on the subject, nobody has satisfactorily reconciled the two accounts. The only person to come close to a resolution was Annie Jaubert's chronology. But in her account, it requires John to follow a different calendar (a solar calendar of 364 days as per Jubbilees and the community at Qumran) than the Synoptic's calendar (the "official" Jewish lunar calendar of 354 days). This has not proved satisfactory with scholars for there is no indication that Jesus followed a different calendar than the "official" one.

I have been reading and rereading this book for the past month. I believe it may be the most thorough presentation and discussion of the Passion Week chronology available. It presents each of three major options carefully, with the arguments and Bible evidence claimed for each view. The author also gives the flaws for two of the views (the Wednesday and the Friday views). The author concludes that the Thursday view, though less known, is the correct position.

Mr. Roy Allen was a scientist by profession, a physicist, who authored articles on the subject of optics in the Britannica encyclopedia, if I recall correctly from information on the dust jacket (which I have mislaid temporarily--I removed it when I began reading the book to keep the dust cover in better condition).

A central Bible text which initially caught the author's attention and led to a study of many years' duration is Luke 24:21.

Thanks, Jerome, for posting this. I was so hoping that I could find this book in a digital format (as it sounded so interesting), but to no avail. [:(] I start teaching this Sunday on Luke 22 and so we will be taking it slow through these last 3 chapters...I am sure we will be here for a few months!

The first major question I am working on now is how could Jesus eat the Passover meal (which He does) if He is supposed to be crucified when the Passover lambs were being sacrificing? I've got a few more days for the Lord to show me the answer! [:)]

I love studying the Word! Such a challenge, but always a blessing...especially when you "suddenly" see how it all fits together!
