I'm trying to learn more about the Catholic faith with a view to conversion.  I've got a good basic Verbum library but unfortunately one of the key books, the Catechism, is unavailable to anyone outside the US and Canada for copyright reasons. (I live in the UK)

Is there an alternative text, or a way to legally access it in Verbum?  It seems a real shame that such a valuable resource cannot be used by a large part of the world.

I would appreciate any help you can give.

Thank you.

Welcome to the forums. Unfortunately, as I understand it, the rights belong to the national council of bishops and therefore must be negotiated separately with each of them. I would think, however, that the Latin version should be available world wide.

The only serious solution I know is to have someone inside the US or Canada buy it and transfer the license to you.

Thank you MJ for your swift reply.  I'm afraid my Latin is minimal!!! The other solution sounds good but I don't know how I would go about it.  The Catechism of the Council of Trent is available but all of the references I come across in the teachings are to the newer version.

God bless

The third option would be to make it into a Personal Book (you can find the text on the Vatican website). Free, but requires a bit of work.

Indeed, welcome to the forums.  Smile

Another option is to access the Catechism via the USCCB website or the Vatican website directly w/o integration to Verbum.  We understand this is not ideal - outside the features of Verbum.  But you can explore nonetheless.

Again, thank you for the welcome and for these suggestions.  The Personal Book looks like a good compromise, at least the Catechism would be within Verbum, although not having the same functionality as a purchased copy.

The USCCB or Vatican websites would also work reasonably well using either a split screen or second PC/Laptop, especially if the references could be quickly accessed.  I'll look into both ways to see which works best.
