It's crossed the production line at $18. I'd wager we can drive it down perhaps as low as $10. Bid!

Lets just go to $16.00. That is reasonable. If everyone would switch, that would do it.

All bidders apparently got that. I mentioned the errors in a different thread.

I think that getting it to $16 is still quite an effort - and to clarify your statement: the 'everyone's that need to switch are those who have bids lower than $16 since the bids for $18 are already factored in for the percentage showing for $16.

What we'd need even more is people to switch/activate the "bid" button for the first time (not bad to receive such a resource at either $18 or $16).

For clarification: Your method only works when people who are LOWER than $16 bid $16 (or higher). Here is a simplified version:

  • Logos determines a book will cost $100 to produce.
  • 10 people bid $10 (or more) to meet the $100 reserve.
  • People want the price to go to $8...
  • If all 10 bidders move their bid to $8, then the pool = $80, which is less than the $100 needed.
  • If all 10 bidders STAY at $10, they are guaranteed to win the bid.
  • If any of the 10 bidders move down and the bid closes at 10, those who move down lose the bid.
  • If the goal is to get the bid to close at $8, you need to get 3 more bidders to bid at least $8. (10 original bidders + 3 new bidders = 13x8=$104)
  • The new bidders could bid ANYTHING $8 or HIGHER. They could ALL bid $10 and the bid would still close at $8 because....
  • A Bid at a higher price point is ALSO a bid at every lower price point.

I've been in at $18 for sometime - but would be much happier with a lower price (sort of goes without saying, and yet I said it Wink)

I'm not sure the Community Pricing is working properly. It doesn't look to me if the curve has changed all week, even though attention has been drawn to it in this thread. The wrong information in the email we all received and the static curve are all I have to go on but it is curious that the price hasn't moved.

I am sure it is working properly, just maybe not to our hopes. It is strange that these resources would sit for so long without moving and then two of them go in one week. They have always been close, but the day before they moved over, they were still at 90%. I feel that sometimes it is in Logos best interest to get a resource into production so they allow it to go over the line even if there isn't enough bids. The expectation is that more bidders will come and bring it all the way to 100%. The progress has to go from 90% to 100% then beyond to go to a lower price. Logos has committed to a certain price and if no one extra bids, they take a loss. I am sure in this case that enough bids have come in to reach the $18 and $20 amounts, but not enough to move the needle to a lower price. I can't confirm this at all and I may be dead wrong, but this is just my observation over time. If I am right, I have absolutely no problem with Logos doing this and I wish they had done it sooner.

The other thing is that just because something is on the forum doesn't mean people see them. I am sure that most who are on the forums regularly watch community price and prepub products and are well informed. Most of the people I know who use Logos never go to the forums unless they have a problem so posts here are never seen. I became a forum junkie on another site so I compulsively check the forums here regularly, but most people do not.

Although I would love to see a lower price, I feel that both are good values at the current price and will support them all the way to production.

It has moved! It's on the verge of $16 crossing the line!

David Ruley:

It is strange that these resources would sit for so long without moving and then two of them go in one week.

The numbers for the Lexham Bible Guides on 1 Peter, Jonah, and Ruth have moved ahead fairly closely together (within 10–15% of each other) for years. I was expecting all 3 of them to get to 100% around the same time, but it was taking a long time to close the gap of that last 10% or so.

I feel that sometimes it is in Logos best interest to get a resource into production so they allow it to go over the line even if there isn't enough bids. ... Logos has committed to a certain price and if no one extra bids, they take a loss.

On occasion, resources have been started before pre-pub or community pricing reached 100%, but with these Bible guides, we've incurred no costs beyond creating the product pages to gauge interest. However, I think we revised our estimate of the production cost at some point using the information on our true costs of creating the Bible guides for Paul's letters. Since we had a better idea of what it would take to produce these, I wanted the pre-pub to be accurate. I was also trying to keep pricing under $20. Those factors made it take longer to hit 100%. I'm glad it's there now, though, and we're working on a plan for getting Jonah out this year.
