Footnote Numbers Not Showing When Pasting From Logos 4 to Word 2010
I just noticed that the footnotes at the bottom of my Word 2010 document display correctly but do not display the number of the footnote. I have searched all around Word for a setting that may be driving this but cannot find anything. Is there a setting in Logos 4 that allows or suppresses footnote numbers showing when pasting?
Thanks in advance.
Jeff

This is a known bug that was reported in July but evidently hasn't been fixed yet: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/19212.aspx

Jeff I had this problem last semester using Word 2003 and 2007, so it is not Word. Logos is aware of the problem and they have not fixed it yet. The end result was I deleted all my notes and manually typed them back in which fixed the problem for my paper, but not the problem for my Bible software. Good luck.

Its fixed in 4.1RC1.
It was broke in 4.0dSr2it works with Ctrl C and with Copy Bible Verse
Remember to have these turned ON in Program Settings. (see wiki Program Settings)

Steve,
Does this work with references other than Bibles, for example commentaries?

Randy, yes it does. Below are one from the BKC and another from Holman Bible Atlas.
EDIT: good question though. i had to try it to ensure that it worked and it did.0 -
Steve - I adjusted the settings as you suggested, restarted Logos, and it still doesn't work - neither for Bible references or non-biblical ones. It does display the letter for the footnote that is embedded within the biblical text, but the footnote for the actual Bible being referenced still does not display the actual footnote number.
I noticed your screen prints are Word 2003. Any chance it could be that Logos still doesn't communicate correctly with 2010?

Jeff,
What version of Logos4 are your running?
If you don't know how to find your version number:
- Click on the ? , then a drop down list will appear.
- Click on About Logos Bible Software
- In the About window you will find your version number.
If you are running 4.0dSr2, then you will still have the problem with missing superscripted numbers for footnotes.
The fix is in version 4.1, they just released this version, it is a release candidate, so this is not the official release. You can update to it by going to this Post and following the instructions.Or you can wait a week or so and the release hopefully will be out.
I would really be surprised if your problem was Word version related, since they probably just restored what was broke by version 4.0d (it worked in version 4.0c).
EDIT: could one of the MVP's or someone with RC1 or RC2 try this if you are running Word 2010??

Jeff,
Are you using Copy Bible Verse?
Try selecting your text in a Bible, then use Ctrl C to copy it to the clipboard, then paste it into Word. Perhaps something is acting strange in Copy Bible Verse.EDIT: although CBV worked with Word 2003, when using the format: Fully Formatted with Footnotes.

Thanks Steve.

Sorry, I've got Word 2007.
Jeff, are you able to insert footnotes in Word through it's Insert Footnotes command and they show up OK?
When you paste them in from Logos, is there an extra space where the footnote marker should be, or is the text of the footnote flush with the left margin?
I'm wondering if there's maybe something wrong with your Footnote Reference style in Word? Can you check out that style definition and tell me what's in it? Mine is Superscript, Based on: Default Paragraph Font. But maybe someone has mucked with yours and it includes font color = white or something bizarre like that so that the footnote reference marks are there but aren't showing up.

Thanks for all the input. Here are some answers to recent questions:
Version of Logos - I will try to download the RC later today and will post results.
Word results - the footnotes are left justified (no space where the number should be). I can insert footnotes manually in Word 2010 with no problems - i.e. the numbers/letters show. I don't believe it is a Word issue.
I am hopeful the 4.1 RC will resolve the issue. I will post results.
Thanks again.

On second thought...we are launching our church this Sunday, and I am finalizing sermon prep...may not be the best time to chance having something not work by using the RC...anyone know when the live version of 4.1 will be released?

I'm going to make myself look like a complete idiot but what do you mean by "launching our church"?

I'm not Jeff, but that's terminology for a new church plant holding their first service ever.
"And what, pray tell," says Ms. Smith, "is a church plant? Is that the ivy in a pot they have growing in the narthex?" [:)]

I suspected it was something like that ... we just open new parishes or missions, dedicate new buildings or launch new projects.
But I did know what church plants are - Easter lilies[:D]

I was trying to find a nice Photoshopped picture shaped kind of like this but looking more like a cathedral. Oh well:

You are exactly right! Two years ago while in my last year of seminary I had no idea what this meant either. Then, through prayer, counsel, and a series of events, I was convinced God was calling me to plant a church. Never dreamed I would be doing this, but then that is often how God works!
Thank you for your prayers as we have our first service Sunday!

First, thank you for your prayers as our first service occurred last Sunday. God overwhelmed us with His presence, and His name was glorified.
Second, downloaded the RC, and the footnotes worked perfectly! Thanks to everyone for your assistance with this.

That's great to hear, Jeff. May God continue to bless your new fledgeling church, that it may be a blessing to the neighborhood.
And glad the footnotes situation is working fine for you now.

Jeff, I am not sure what the status is for the style you need. I attend Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and use their style manual. Its based on Turabian which is based on the Chicago Manual of Style and biblical references require no foot note notation. I usually use the NASB translation for all my papers so usually my first note is stating I used the NASB blah blah for all Bible references. So, some styles do not require a footnote for citing the Bible. Like I said in my previous post, I manually type in my references now with the citations. I do not allow Word to auto my references.
