Approaching 50,000 Forum users!

Just a little less than 1 year ago (May 22, 2010), the 25,000th person posted for the first time on the forum. http://community.logos.com/forums/p/17432/131577.aspx
We are nearing 50,000 users (screenshot taken tonight, May 17 at 10:30 PM EDT):
This is pretty amazing growth. 1987 new members every month during the last year. 66 new users every day.
We are also approaching the 250,000th post. Looks like we'll hit that one before we get our 50,000th user.

Logos could celebrate by having special sales to commemorate the momentous events. At 250K, everything 25% off, and at 50K posters, 50% off [:D]
Hey, a fellow can dream, can't he? [^o)]

Wow! Think what the progress of the sequence would mean for 125K posters. [6]

Reading through this thread makes me wonder what it would mean if we changed it from total posts and posters to total meaningful posts and posters. [:O]

Or what would it mean if we answered a question...

...with two posts instead of one?

They'd add up much faster that way.

I think Rosie would still win.

I think that "problem" is compensated for by several of us commonly answering 2-10 other posts in one single post of our own. I don't think you can do that on Twitter. I agree with Jack:
Jack Caviness said:Logos could celebrate by having special sales to commemorate the momentous events.
I think you "owe" us a sale. [:D] When Twitter passed a threshold, there was a huge sale. When Facebook passed a threshold, there was a huge sale. But when the Forums passed a threshold, all that happened was that one person got a gift. Good for him -- but fair? How many tens of thousands of dollars do the good people here save Logos in tech support costs by answering questions and creating the Wiki and videos? And in lost sales by making people think twice before returning the software when they're disappointed or run into serious trouble? Do the Twitter and Facebook users do that?

Definitely. Next week, sometime? Unless the Rapture does happen on Saturday.

Ha! Actually, I remember a game we used to play in math camp called GAME, which stood for GAME And Meta-Extensions (yes, its name was recursive; a math geek thing). The rules of the game were basically: (1) Start with the rules of tic-tac-toe; (2) When it's your turn you can make a move under the current rules, or make a rule change. Rule changes could involve anything from what constitutes "winning" to what the board looked like to what moves are allowed and disallowed. I think the only rule you couldn't change was that turns had to alternate back and forth between players (otherwise someone could come in and make a rule that gave them 4 moves in a row to an automatic win).

Update as of one week later (5/24/11) 1:40 PM EDT:
We have added 370 new users and 1,569 posts in the past week. We are almost at 50,000 users and a sneeze away from 250,000 posts.
EDIT: And still no word from Logos on how they are going to sale-abrate this milestone. [:)]

The answer, of course, would be . . .
You're not going to like it. I mean, you're really not going to like it . . .

Man! I have just now gotten my Logos spending under some semblance of control. Then temptation strikes again. [8-|]
Now, Jack, take a deep breath and repeat after me, "No matter what Logos offers, I will not buy." There, I'm ready. Bring on the sale. [:D]

Wasn't logged on much yesterday to see this milestone achieved but it should be celebrated. The forums have grown tremendously and the community they have built is second-to-none.

Looks like 50,000 Forum user milestone was very close to 2 year anniversary. On 5 Jun 2009, Bob Pritchett posted => What do you think of web forums instead of newsgroups? Followed by a suggestion => import past posts , Mac question => What is your most desired missing feature to be included in the next Mac version? , NICOT/NICNT , Where are the posts? , Suggestion on forum replies , Question , New topic - perhaps to raise some hackles and collect some votes , and Shutdown the forums...
In early threads, noted forum users that now number over 900 posts, many have stars * under their avatars:
Joe Miller * (now a Logos employee)
Note: What do you think of web forums instead of newsgroups? is thread # 33 (appears to be oldest forum thread available to public users).
