Is it possible to upload a song? For instance I have the lyrics to a song in a Mac Word Document. Is there a way to upload the document or do I just simply have to cut and paste the information into Proclaim?
Thanks!
Proclaim automatically saves edits you make to songs. Take a look at the 'My Songs' section in the song title entry helper. The songs are uniquely identified by title so if you want separate versions of a single song you will need to name them as such.
I have the same question: How do I import lyrics from a word.doc file? I expected the "file" button to do this, but when pointed to word.docs, they are grayed out as if Proclaim does not recognize the file format.
Currently, Proclaim supports using .txt or .text files for importing lyrics into Song Items directly.
You can always cut and paste lyrics from other document types into the Lyrics field.
Thanks,
Gosh! Opening 200+ text files, then copying and pasting them, one at a time, into Proclaim sounds like a real time killer. Why no import of the world's most common word processor file format?
Will there be a method for importing files from MediaShout?
This is a very good question! We moved from Songbase to MediaShout 3 years ago. Importing songs from MediaShout would be most helpful.
We do have plans to allow importing from MediaShout in the future. I don't have an eta on that for you at this time, however.
I added a song to a presentation then added it to another presentation using the My Songs selection. I edited the song on the second presentation and then went back to the first presentation and expected the changes to show up there, but they did not. Is that a bug? If not, that doesn't make any sense to me as with other presentation software you have a database of songs that you choose from. If you change the song it changes it everywhere.
Ok, it's a little worse than that. I created a song and edited it so that it would be centered (rather than left-justified like the default). Then when I clicked "Add Item" in the same presentation and selected the song from My Songs it added the item left-justified. So, these changes aren't even applying within the same presentation.
It is important to note that customizing a slide only ever pertains to that particular slide.
Changes made using the Customize Slide feature will not transfer to new Service Items.

This is by design. We will never change the textual content of a service item automatically. If you make an edit to a song in your song database it will only apply to future service items.
So is there no way then to make my song be center justified or so I have to customize the instance every time we do the song?
I'm still noticing lots of inconsistencies with this. I create a new presentation and a new song. Then I make a new presentation. Sometimes the song shows up and other times it doesn't. And sometimes I edit the song on an old presentation, make sure everything is synced, and then try and add it to a new presentation. Sometimes I get the version of the song before I made the edit and other times I don't. Either I'm completely missing something or there are some bugs here. Definitely pretty discouraged as I've been waiting for Proclaim for so long. Want to finally get rid of ProPresenter! Little weird transitioning to this stateless system where it's difficult to tell if an item is "saved" and I have multiple versions of instances floating around from prior dates. Like the concept of a master file in a database much better.
When you retrieve the edited song, are you getting it from "My Songs" at the bottom of the list, or grabbing it again from the original source? (SongSelect or Logos Hymnbase?)

I'll have our tester spend some time on this feature. One thing to note about the current behavior is custom song edits don't upload to the server until you lose focus from that service item.
will it be possible to import directly from song select? we are currently using media-shout and that downloads songs directly from CCLi song select into media shout for presentation, which saves a lot of time.
will it be possible to import directly from song select?
Yes, we have first class integration with SongSelect.
First link your account.
Then create a song service item and use the song title entry helper (just start typing) to select a song from the SongSelect section.
I am using the Mac version.
I am having difficulty seeing the "my songs" selection. For some reason i can scroll down to see Songselect suggestions and Logos Hymnal, but I cannot scroll down further to get to "My Songs".
Any suggestions?
Joshua,
Can you post a screenshot of the issue you're seeing? (Note: Use can use Cmd+Shift+4 to quickly grab an area of the screen.)
Thanks
Tom

Sure! I don't know if you can tell, but I can't scroll down any further.
Ah, yes. I see the problem. We'll get this fixed in an upcoming release.
Unfortunately, I can't see any workaround for now, unless you can plug into an external monitor with greater than 800 pixels of vertical resolution.
I just get extremely sporadic behavior. What constitutes "losing focus"? I've created Song A, then Song B, then Sync. I would then expect that Song A would be completely synced and I just am not seeing that. If I try and add it again to the same presentation via My Songs it doesn't even appear. When I start adding multiple instances across multiple presentations I get many variations of what gets saved.
If you let me know what the intended behavior is in terms of losing focus (i.e. - an example of how it's suppose to work where I can expect changes to be saved) I will try it. What I'm trying to do isn't very uncommon (something I and other people I've watched have done in Song Show Plus, Pro Presenter, etc). Thanks!
To edit the layout of lyrics to be centered when a chosen background has set them left justified, simply select "Customize" on the right hand side of the app when editing the desired song slide. The initial slide to edit will be the Title slide. Simply select the "SONG 4:3" slide and edit as needed. Select "DONE" in the upper right hand corner when your positioning is complete.
Here is the image showing where to edit the song text positioning.
Hey Matthew, I'm assuming that tip was directed to me since I was asking about centering text. I appreciate the assistance, but my issue is that when you do just what you've described to a song it only applies to that instance of the song. If you add the song on a different presentation, those changes don't apply.
edit: To forum admin: looks like the QuickReply function won't allow for quoting and replying doesn't do quoting by default. Different than any other forum I've ever visited.
What constitutes "losing focus"?
By losing focus I mean switching the currently editing service item. At this time we will upload the changes you have made to the song, keyed by title. The custom song database feature does use the normal sync framework. The sync icon in the upper right of the main window is not related to custom song database changes.
I have noticed some updates being rejected by the server which is an issue we will be addressing.
Another detail you should be aware of is song changes will not be indexed for up to a minute after uploading. Hopefully not a real usability issue, more of a tester bug.
Thanks for the feedback! Let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks for the clarification. In real life use it probably won't cause too many issues. However, I guess the thing that still worries me just a bit is the "automatic" nature of everything. I know it's really cool when things "just work" and it's all behind the scenes, but when something doesn't quite work or isn't super intuitive it can be maddening.
I would really like to see a way to manage the database in a more discrete manner. Not only would this provide a way to make changes and then commit them before proceeding, it would allow for keeping things organized. I've been working with church presentation software for a long time and it's been a certainty in my experiences that eventually things get messy and need to be cleaned up a bit. With no way to manage the database I just foresee a lot of mess eventually. I'd need to be able to delete songs, rename songs, etc.
Additionally, didn't hear back on the whole center-justified question. Seems as though there's no way to make the "saved" song in My Songs be anything other than the default of left-justified. So, I have to customize each song every time I add it.
But if these sorts of features are added you'll definitely have another customer! Most everything else seems really good so far. Thanks for answering all the questions too!
The idea was the the slide designer could (and should) choose the text alignment style. It's true that many graphic backgrounds would work equally well with left-aligned or centered text, but some are designed specifically for one or the other. By associating this with background we make it easier to try different styles without having to constantly change text formatting.
(Yes, I know some people always want one style or the other, or may disagree with the designer. I'm just explaining how we got here. :-) )
That's an ok argument, but the fact is you still "chose" (whether implicitly or explicitly) left-alignment as the default . I'd just prefer it if the default was center aligned as this seems more natural to me and then in the rare cases where we encountered a background where this didn't work we could switch it.
Or maybe we'll just deal with it. May have a few people leave the church over it, though. Haha, just kidding (or maybe not?).
I am still getting cannot connect to server error when trying to add our song select accout, pls help
The password on the new song select APIs is case sensitive. This is not the case on the main website. To narrow down your issue try logging in w/ your credentials here https://mobile.songselect.com/account/login
thanks we sorted it on the main church computer it hooked up straight away...song select is connected now
