Primary purpose is for Logos. Which is the better buy?
Observation: Logos app for iOS has more features than Android; feature parity is planned.
Noticed Android 0.9.3 => Logos and Vyrso 0.9.3 Released improves reading on mid-sized tablets along with a list of known issues.
On iPad, version 1.8.3 => Logos for iOS 1.8.3 Release Notes has feature to redownload books after a restore from backup, which is quicker than selecting one at a time once more. Apple's free iOS 5 upgrade wiped out downloaded books so having ability to redownload all books is appreciated.

From a hardware price perspective, Kindle Fire is a loss leader item for Amazon, which will be challenging for other tablet manufacturers since Amazon's business model is seeking a profit from digital content sales. For tablet hardware, the Barnes & Noble Nook Tablet costs $ 50 more while having 16 GB of storage plus micro SD card slot. So Nook Tablet could store Logos library on SD card.
If tablet's primary purpose is reading Logos resources; Amazon Fire's $ 199 price may be a better buy; download resource(s) for reading, then may need to delete when done reading due to storage limitations.

The iPad. In addition to a superior platform, the mobile app for iOS is further along.
My vote is for iPad 2.
I currently own the first generation iPad and use the Logos app. I appreciate that I can read my books while in bed or on the couch. However, IMO, you'll want a device for more than just Logos. This is where the iPad really shines! It has a wonderful internet experience and has the largest app store. But most of all...it works like a tablet computer should!
I have played around with a few other tablets. The most recent was a Kindle Fire. I was not impressed at all!

Open source Handbrake is worthwhile for converting Logos videos for viewing on iPad so can pause video on iPad while replicating steps in Logos 4.

I would also opt for the iPad. Whether other manufacturers like it or not, the iPad is the tablet new models to the market are constantly benchmarked against. This says something.
There's no getting around the fact that iPads are expensive. However, Apple do seem to be good at issuing regular software updates for their devices. Therefore, if you decide to buy an iPad, I'm sure you'll reap the benefits of it for several years to come.
I think there are a number of different factors that would sway your decision. The Ipad 2 provides the best experience in the short term as it has more features for now. If you already have music and movies purchased through the apple store that might tempt you to stay on that platform.
There are other factors that might sway you to android.
You can get Android tablets in 7,9 and 10 inch sizes. If you find the iPad 2 heavy you might like a 7" Android.Cost: Android tablets, especially the smaller ones are significantly cheaper.
Options and accessories. I have an Asus Transformer which has an keyboard with its own battery extending the battery life to 16 hours. Plus you can have an attached keyboard without needing a bulky case.
If you have an Android phone other apps that you buy for your phone can also be downloaded to your tablet.
If you are thinking about an Android tablet I'd consider waiting for the Asus Transformer Prime. It will be significantly faster than any Android tablet on the market and it is coming out in January.
