Is there any comparison done between Proclaim and Opensong.org?

I understand, of course, that the first one relies on a vast pre-compiled library of resources, and for the second one you have to prepare things mostly on your own.

But if a church already accumulated hundreds of resources in Opensong.org, is there a reason to try out Proclaim, too?

Thanks.

As a church with hundreds of resources formatted for Opensong, I can relate to your situation.

The advantages of Proclaim include:

  • Video backgrounds
  • Integration with SongSelect, Logos, Graceway Media and PlanningCenterOnline (SongSelect helps keep you from re-typing everything)
  • Cloud collaboration
  • Active development (OpenSong development has really slowed down)
  • DVD and local media file playback (DVD functionality is still coming)
  • Custom lyrics monitor output for the worship team (planned, but not yet implemented)
  • PowerPoint integration (again, coming soon)
  • Remote control with dedicated iPhone, iPad and Android apps

So, in short, OpenSong is a phenomenal software, especially as a free option, for simply presenting songs. If you want to step up to a full-featured presentation software that supports multi-media assets with collaborative abilities that lives in the cloud, then Proclaim really starts to stand out as a strong option.

Thank you, Chris, very much for such a detailed response.  Yes. video, cloud and and media integration is really cool.

We however do not use videos yet and our songs are in Russian. But the main advantages of Proclaim are clearer now.  Thanks.

Frankly, if you are only using song lyrics, and they are in Russian, then Opensong may be a really good option for you right now. Since all the song and set files are small (just text files), you can sync your database between different computers quite easily using Dropbox or Windows Live Mesh. That got us by here at our church for quite a while. We are enjoying the additional flexibility that Proclaim gives us now though.

Слава Богу
