Could you add a feature to show all highlights in a book?
This would be similar to how Kindles let you see every highlight.
That would be great!!
Do you mean a way to see what passages other people have highlighted?
This feature already exists: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/61098.aspx
No, I mean what I have personally highlighted.
In other words, not my notes, but all of my highlights in a particular book. (not community highlights)
Kindle puts all of these into a list. Then you can copy and paste them elsewhere (e.g., Evernote).
Oh, I get it.
Note and Highlights are actually both stored in Notes files, and there's virtually no distinction between them now. I was not a fan of that change, and I confess I have not learned how to use the new system very well. But people who do use it will say you can organize your highlights so that you have one Notes/Highlights file per Logos resource. Then you can open that document/file and see all the notes and highlights together. As in Kindle, where I think notes and highlights are intermingled in that list, I don't think you can filter to see just the highlights. Again, this is one of the reasons I don't like the new implementation of this feature.

Please look at my screen clip ............. upper right hand corner ......... annotations ......
using the arrows, I go to EVERY annotation in that resource! Blessings! *smile*
Edit: The up and down arrows ----- NOT, the left and right arrows, eh???
Milford, that's a useful way to be able to review every highlight in a book. But I think Joel wants a way to collect the text he's highlighted all together in one place, as he mentioned the copy/paste capability in Kindle (which I'd never been aware of before).
Oh, and I was wrong about Kindle. It does let you filter to show Notes only, Highlights only, Bookmarks only, or all three. Something like this would be useful in Logos.
(This also makes me realize Logos is missing out on an opportunity here: Bookmarks should be implemented the same way and then there'd be able to be an unlimited number of them per resource, unlike the global max of 9 they presently have.)
Both thoughts are helpful...
1) Yes, that annotation advancing is a nice feature. I wish they would add that to the iPad app as well, since I usually refer to an iPad while typing notes.
2) Yes, I would love to grab the text itself from one location. That would be great for integrating with Evernote, Pages, and other applications.
Joel
Well, anyway ............ a big fat Hello to both of you, eh??? Joel, I just took a peek at some of your poetry! Good stuff! *smile*
Yes please!!!!!! This is a killer feature on the Kindle platform. I simply place those highlights into my bibliographic manager as a form of notes for a book. The cool part is the page reference is tied to the note....so I've got everything I need to reference or quote later. This feature would add real value to Logos as a research platform.
The latest beta in Android has a highlighting tool which allows you to see all highlights within a particular book - so Logos is working on it
I have just noted that this tool doesn't pick up on notes, just pure highlights. Whether that is intended or not I don't know, but will ask
Any update on this feature? It's so useful in Kindle to be able to have your own personal summary of the book based on the highlights. Can this be done yet in Logos (perhaps in version 6)?
Can this be done yet in Logos (perhaps in version 6)?
Yes - this can be done using the "Quotes" view in Notes.
It requires that the highlights are all in the same Notes document.
Just to clarify - is this "Quotes view" only in version 6? Can't see it immediately in 5.
Thought I'd found another way to do it - by creating a Passage List and adding based on "highlighter style". However, this only works for "versified resources" i.e. Bibles not generic resources.
Yes, this is a Logos 6 feature - enabling something like
And the current beta of 6.0a supports searching by highlights as well.
Graham,
How did you manage to get your book inside of a note and have all the corresponding highlights show up as quotes?
Hi Brenton
I didn't get the book "inside a note". Rather I highlighted portions of the book, selected Quotes view in the notes file snd got the results shown.
Do you see something different?
Graham
As far as I can tell, here's what works for me using Logos 6.10 on OS X:
1. While reading through a resource, use the highlighter pen
2. On the top bar, click "Documents," which should open up a dropdown menu
3. In the right pane, "Open," scroll down to the document "Highlighter Pens." Click on the name of the document ("Highlighter Pens") and it should open in a new pane
4. Near the top of the pane, where it says, "Full, Compact, Split, Quotes" select "Quotes"
5. If you just want to read the quotes, scroll down to the book you're focusing on and they should all be there.
6. If you want to copy and paste the quotes, print/export the document (I.e., press Cmd+P or click to the top left icon in the pane and select "print/export" from the dropdown menu). You can either export to a document you want to work (click on one of the options on the bottom right of the print/export pane) or copy and paste directly from the preview.
Hope that helps!
Hi Alex - and welcome to the forums
Thanks for posting - and I agree this works fine.

My recommendation here is to use separate Notes Documents per resource which keeps everything in one place. Then you would find the name of the document associated with the resource and just open that.
The easiest way to set this up is by setting each Highlighting Palette to use "Resource Specific Note file" - which you can configure in the Highlighting Panel
