Resource Update being published soon

A 1.2 GB resource update will be published soon. This will include updated versions of all reverse interlinears (and their associated Bibles) to fix some bugs discovered internally. It will also update Hebrew and Aramaic grammatical relationships, which will fix bugs involving homographs, such as http://community.logos.com/forums/t/8069.aspx

I LOVE that all these updates and fixes are on offer, but its really hurting my download traffic and time taken ...

I'm at 54% of 1.14 GB, and its been about 2 hours.

I wish I could select only some of them, and do others at a different time ...

Currently I can have Unlimited Amounts of Broadband, but limited speeds (takes forever), or no speed limits but only 20 GB / mth. Not everyone has unlimited volumes AND speeds.

Please: Yet another request for selective control of downloads.

(I think I would even accept an option to NOT download a given resource, but have it locked (can't open) until after I do accept the download. This flag should only be enabled if it was going to crash otherwise. I.E. The update was an important format change/fix that was critical for it to still work.)

I was quite happy to accept this 1GB as it was the last day of my monthly budget and I had a couple of GB left, else I would have left it for May 1st. You have twice my budget.

OK, there is a problem with this resource update.

For my installation the AV1873, NASB95, and NKJV display with a large amount of whitespace between each line. It appears like Logos is attempting to show some interlinear material. And while I am licensed for the English versions of these bible I am not licensed for the interlinear version. The biggest problem is that the display menu is not available on these three resources so that I can turn off the interlinear lines that are being displayed though they don't exist

Also I have mostly the same problem with the NRSV. Although since I somehow have the NT interlinear file (but not the OT) I can get to the display menu and turn off the interlinear lines and avoid the empty space while viewing the OT.

That setting has been OFF since my first-ever install of Logos4. I tend to dislike auto-anything and turn off as much as I can in any application I use.

Sadly, the Internet plan I have is VERY SLOW at times. It can sometimes take me an hour for a 30 MB Logos Beta update, or 5 hours to get a 200 MB video file down to my PS3, yet I can pull a 2 GB .ISO image down from Microsoft.com at 800KB/sec at times. Who knows how the traffic cops at my ISP decide what speeds I can get stuff. On my old data plan, I used to get dropped to 64 Kbits/sec if I went over my cap, but my current plan sometimes knocks me to 2 k per second at times for some downloads.

The 1.1 GB today took between 4 and 5 hours I think, and then only about 2 hours to index.

NOTE: I made some extra free-space on my drive, and ran defrag a few times, until it finished in a few minutes with nothing to do. A reindex seems to fly now. Before it was way longer. Not sure how much to assign this to more free space and defrags, and how much to coding work by the Logos team.

What version of Logos 4 is installed? I tested the updated resources in the 4.0c Beta with an account that does not own the interlinears you mention and do not see the same problem.

I have Logos 3 Scholar's Gold and have updated (not upgraded) to Logos 4. I am running the current Beta. 4.0c B7. And the problem is most definitely with the resource update yesterday. Or is at least exposed by the resource update. NKJV, NASB95, and NRSV are my three primary English translations and this was not an issue earlier this week after updating to 4.0C B7. It was not even an issue earlier in the day before the resource update.

Ouch! Even my slow speed was never that SLOW (slow dial-up is about 2.6 KB/s, normal about 5 KB/s). I tend to start after midnight and go to bed with 1 GB+ downloads, but download speed this year has improved and the 1 GB completed inside 40 minutes in the morning.

A reindex seems to fly now. Before it was way longer. Not sure how much to assign this to more free space and defrags, and how much to coding work by the Logos team.

By allowing the Indexer to do its thing, a download takes minutes to index because only the supplemental index is affected (about 30-45 resources). I haven't had a full reindex in months (which would take hours). As the recent download was resources we had earlier in the beta, the supplemental index count wasn't changed.

So if you had an index take hours followed by an index taking minutes I would suspect the affect of a supplemental index.

No problems Wilson. I linked here from the Mac forum because the first post in the thread gives the information on what books were updated. We can't really see them yet since Mac does not have the Interlinears active, but that feature is coming.

Logging is for reporting bugs, not seeing what resources get updated. For the specifics on each update, the forum is the best place for now.
