We just released a new version of all nine of our base packages (KF), and we wanted to let you know why. It’s not a major reconfiguration like we do when we release a new version of the software. It’s a minor maintenance update to make a few adjustments for some of the publishers we work with and also take care of some other little issues. (It's similar to what we did a few years ago when we moved from OC to ND.)

Here’s what’s changed (not all of these apply to all base packages):

  1. At Zondervan’s request, we’ve replaced the TNIV and NIV (1984) with the new 2011 NIV. The license is included, and the file is just about finished. It will automatically download as soon as it’s ready.
  2. We’ve added the NET Bible Notes as a separate resource. In previous base packages, the notes were included only as footnotes in the Bible text itself. Now you will be able to view them in a separate panel alongside your Bible text.
  3. We’ve added the Logos LXX Variants and its corresponding reverse interlinear.
  4. We’ve added a new Book of Common Prayer lectionary.
  5. At Baker’s request, we removed their titles from a few of our collections. They are still available for purchase on our website as add-on products.

Refer to the comparison chart for all the details.

There are two items of good news for all existing LE package owners:

  1. It’s a free crossgrade from your LE package to its KF replacement, which essentially means that owners of Bible Study Library and higher get a free copy of the new 2011 NIV. Depending on your base package level, you may also get some additional titles as indicated above.
  2. You won’t lose anything you already have. You’ll retain the TNIV, the 1984 NIV, and all of your Baker content.

Though the new NIV isn’t quite finished yet, you can go ahead and get your free crossgrade today.The file will download as soon as it is ready.

Phil, can you explain for the uninitiated/ignorant, e.g. me, what's the difference between KF and LE??  Hmm

Logos has had a "Scholar's Library" since 2001 (I think), but its contents have changed over time. "LE", "KF" etc. are tags that we add to the name of the product to distinguish these revisions from each other (when it matters). Scholar's Library (KF) is 99% the same as Scholar's Library (LE); Phil listed the differences in his post (under "Here’s what’s changed").

Ever since we launched the Libronix Digital Library System, we've been keeping track of the different generations of our packages with letters to help to distinguish between versions of Scholar's Library, for example. Usually a new base package generation corresponds to a new version of the software, but not always.

Here's all the generations of our packages so far:

  1. RA: Libronix 1
  2. QB: Libronix 2
  3. OC: Libronix 3
  4. ND: Libronix 3 (maintenance update)
  5. LE: Logos 4
  6. KF: Logos 4 (maintenance update)

Usually the difference between each generation of packages is scores or hundreds of new books. In maintenance updates like KF, it's just a few little things.

Oh my goodness, that's a HUGE change!!! I'm sure glad I purchased my Platinum when it first came out! I love Baker's Exegetical Commentary and Baker's NT Commentary I don't think I could give those up.  Anyway, so far so good!

How do you come up with those letters? Do they stand for anything, or are they just random? Here are my guesses...

RA = Really Awesome

QB = Quite a Bargain

OC = Obviously Complete

ND = Never Deficient

LE = Learn Everything

KF = Keep Functioning

YES. That is the statement I was frantically searching for in Phil's announcement.  I guess we are "grand-fathered" in as to the content license. I am quite happy about keeping the NIV 1984 and the Baker titles.

By the way, I could give BECNT and Bakers NT up if Logos could give us Platinum owners the NICOT/NICNT set to replace those...LOL...hey, I got nothing to lose by day dreaming...hehehe.Stick out tongue

Does this update automatically, or do I have to go to the website and do it manually?

Manually. Follow Phil's link for "Free Crossgrade" and you will be brought to an order page. Click on the "Free" upgrade and you will finish the process from there.

I went to the website and got the upgrade for free, but when I click on the download button for L4 it started running the program and then it stopped and told me: "Logos 4 is up-to-date." So I guess it upgraded on it's own and I didn't notice it.  Oh well, I'm so happy we get to keep the other titles and get some freebies on the way.

I think that it is a very quick process simply because it just updates your licenses. I don't think that there are any file changes to the program itself, not until the NIV is released anyhow.

It just downloaded some files...guess what...now I have 2 copies of the "Common Lectionary" -- that's weird.  I thought Logos wouldn't copy books twice.  I downloaded the free copy last weekend and now I have 2.  It's ok, I guess, now it looks like I have one extra resource...hehehe

Nevermind, the Common Lectionary is slightly different.  One is BCP79DL and the other one is BCP79SL

Are BECNT and Baker NT the only Baker titles affected?  I need to know so I can add them to my wishlist...they were only there implicitly before by nature of having Platinum on my wishlist.

I quickly numbered the resourses in LE and KF and found that LE has 1204 while the new KF has 1169. I used my Libronix 3 account summary and compared only the books not data types ect. Can anyone confirm this number?

It looks like Baker encyclopidia of psycology and counseling, Baker encyclopidia of the bible, the Baker exegetical commentary, and the Baker new testament commentary are gone. I am not sure what else.
