Download Stuck and Notes are...Yuck (hey, it rhymes)

Beyond not being able to download updates (151.5MB stuck on 1%) my notes are messed up - new and old. There are huge spacial gaps between titles and content. Anybody else having this issue? Any clue how to deal with either one or do we wait on a fix?

Yes, I can not get mine to download the update on the Mac Beta channel.  Does anyone have a remedy?  I tried to switch back to the stable channel and I can not get that to happen either.  Please advise?

    thanks,

Not really, monitor network activity and restart indexer after downloading ceases.  Have posted in forums http://community.logos.com/forums/p/32051/239580.aspx#239580 and http://community.logos.com/forums/p/32071/239095.aspx#239095

With indexer not incrementally indexing resources after canceling download, wonder about restarting Mac to restart Indexer (OR force quit Indexer when downloading stuck, then quit and launch Logos 4 Mac).  If use cancel download, suspect Rebuild Index command will be needed after downloads done.

For a resource update, all files downloaded in one session (over weekend), followed by indexing.  Recent sale purchase was not so kind (needed more manual intervention during the week).  Also have noticed several times today that forum web page response was sluggish (potentially Logos servers and/or internet provider capacity issues).

By the way, Wiki has Want to downgrade from Beta to Stable

    Hi Jackie,

These are both known issues with the current Mac Beta; however, they will be fixed in the next Beta.

Thanks. Any clue when that will be?

We are currently on a 2-week beta cycle, so it will likely be sometime next week.

Since I have the same 151 MB or so of updates that will not download either, I tried switching from the beta to the stable release by inserting the proper command in the command box and downloading the stable release manually and replacing the beta with it.

However, when I tried to launch the stable release Logos, I got an error message saying that I couldn't downgrade from the beta with a link to more information that simply said the same thing--that I couldn't downgrade from the beta.

Why can't I downgrade? Will I never be able to downgrade?

And if there's a flaw in the beta that's preventing updates from downloading, wouldn't this warrant a quick fix sooner than the two week cycle? It would seem to me that a beta update that reduces functionality should receive more priority than a regular release cycle update.

Wiki has Want to downgrade from Beta to Stable section that includes "... If want to downgrade from Beta to Stable version, need to Completely Uninstall Beta ..."

Stable Logos 4.2a SR-4 release includes new code for downloading and indexing.  To upgrade from stable Logos 4.2a SR-4 to Logos 4.3 Beta 2 also requires a complete uninstall (see Do not upgrade from 4.2a SR-4 to 4.3 Beta 2)  Once Logos 4.3 Beta 3 is released next week that includes new downloading and indexing code, then can upgrade from Stable 4.2a SR-4 to Logos 4.3 Beta 3 by replacing Logos 4 Mac application.

The format for user data often changes between releases, making data produced by a newer version of the application incompatible with older application versions. If you delete your ~/Library/Application Support/Logos4 folder, you'll be able to run the old version, but you'll also have to download all of your data from our servers again, which can be time consuming (you can avoid the need to download your resources again if you follow the instructions listed elsewhere).

While doing so is tempting, "out of band" releases are risky, and there have been cases when we've made things worse by trying to push out a quick fix. As we've documented elsewhere, the beta program is for users who can afford to live with broken functionality in exchange for seeing new features sooner.

Well, it seems like too much trouble to do a complete uninstall and reinstall. But if there's ever an "easy" opportunity to switch from the beta channel to the regular channel (especially without having to re-download anything), I'll be ready to do just that.

Wiki Want to downgrade from Beta to Stable also includes "Transition option: can use command Set Update Channel to Default for automatic transition to Stable channel for current development cycle (no more Beta updates, only “Gold” and service releases)"

On 8 Mar 2011, Getting Off The Beta Channel (Redux) was posted by a Logos developer during an "easy" transition time from Beta to Stable (after 4.2a "Gold" release and couple weeks before Logos 4.3 Beta 1 release).

Wiki Mac Release Notes and History has some examples of "out of band" pre-releases (two releases within two days).  Also, Logos 4.3 Beta 1 had an "out of band" quick fix release.

Every time I launch Logos, it tries to download that stuck 151 MB. I realize that beta users get what they deserve when the agree to it, and I realize there's a quasi-sacred two-week cycle for the betas, but with all the folks affected by this as mentioned in other threads, this would have been a really good candidate for one of those "out of band" releases. Hopefully the next release will come soon.

Option: can open Indexer.log file to see what is being downloaded since full URL is listed.  Can manually download resources to your Mac desktop then use scan command.  Wiki Copy Logos 4 Resources to Mac OS X (Supported – saves resource downloading) has example scan commands (followed by restarting Logos 4).

Workaround: wonder about manually downloading resource(s) using file location in Indexer.log, then use scan command ?

Also noticed 4.3 Beta 3 release notes has known Mac issue: "Resource downloads may occur in stages with restarts prompted inbetween each download session."

    Two things:

    1. Logos personnel have not asked that I use that work around.

    2. If I use a work around, how will they know that they have fixed the problem?

The problem is irritating, but that is the cost of participating in the beta program.

As I indicated in another thread, restarts are not prompted and the resources are not downloaded regardless of how many restarts occur, so this doesn't fit that description.

We think these download problems are related and development is working on a fix.
