Unreleased Stuff

We've got a big project in the works -- but it's not ready.

Please don't try it until you get the announcement, or you could lose data!

Because it's so big, and connects so many parts of the Logos platform together, it's been hard to keep all the parts under wraps while testing their integration with the rest of our system. While this is a "never done" type project that will keep growing, we want to make sure your first experience is a good one, and that everything in the first release is rock solid.

It's not yet. We know it -- that's why it's unreleased! :-)

I know it's frustrating to wait, but I think it's going to be worth it.

Thanks!

-- Bob

    you could lose data!

What can you tell those who have already been trying it?  What kind of data could they lose?  Should they be looking for a problem?

I've consulted the team, and data loss may not happen. What would be at risk would be anything added specifically inside the new features some people were playing with today -- nothing that would affect your existing Logos data.

Surprise IS part of it Tes.  Additionally in situations like this there may be some arrangements with other people that need to be protected.

In this case I think it's more about a desire to unveil the whole shiny item all at once, rather than just one corner at a time.

Yes, it's because it raises more excitement if people get to see it all finished, rather than leaking partial truths about it before they know what the whole thing is going to look like. Also, if users begin to see parts of it that are accidentally released and it isn't fully functional, they might have negative reactions to it.

I think you may have got the reason for the overall "secrecy" - however, I think Logos orchestrates the "leaking" of small tidbits in order to generate anticipation. Dan twittered about it. It features prominently as "the secret floor" in the tour. There's a new tab in biblia.com. There's a website. There are threads on the forum that reveal some of the news and Logos lets them run for some time and then hides them, so people start asking about it.

Actually, three users tested some of the new functionality yesterday (call it a sort of "pre-beta") and provided infos for Logos regarding usage, bugs etc. Nothing big, but the threads where this was discussed - including some screenshots and a user-made video - ran for several hours until they were pulled. I hope it helps the developers to put the last finishing touches on the new thing.

Thus, I'd rather rephrase your concluding remark: Users begin to see parts of it that Logos releases temporarily, get a glimpse of the new functionality and become eager to try it for themselves - this helps building momentum and it also bridges the time between when the users would like to see the new thing and when it actually gets released. I personally like what I have seen so far, and it allows for new things many of us wanted to do but couldn't accomplish yet.

There was a not-so secret coupon code for the free subscription (which didn't work for me in the coupon code field, but in the "get the free subscription" field). Maybe Customer Service can take the product back and you can re-subscribe for free.

The associated resource is really cool - don't you agree?

It may also be that they want to make sure initial users have a positive experience.  If this "surprise" is what I think it is then at least one part that is available early (probably due to arrangements that needed to be made with a large computer company) has recieved several terrible reviews by users not familiar with Logos software.

Ummm, the possible harmony of using what was not supposed to be used that got used, that wasn’t ready to be used but was unintentionally used anyway. But still was used…….

It could be intentionally meant to arouse curiosity. Or it could be merely designed to cover their bases, so that nobody gets angry at Logos if they do lose some data after trying an unreleased product. Either way, I think they've now closed the holes so people who hadn't already downloaded it can't see it, and the ones who've seen it already feel so special they wouldn't want to share their secret with others who haven't seen it yet. Something is rotten in the State of Denmark.  Why would something which is not yet ready for prime time and which is potentially hazardous to data security be available for use?

Read Bob's clarification.  It's not hazardous to data security.  It's only if people try to enter data in new features that aren't ready yet--that data could be cleared.

And I believe the availability was an accident.

And I believe the availability was an accident.

Also, Bob posted a status update on Facebook today: "My goal in our conversation was to NOT call attention to FSB yet, even though parts were visible in iTunes, etc." I think they weren't expecting the app to be available so soon in iTunes, but they don't have control over that. They have to submit it to Apple in advance to let it go through their vetting process, and then Apple puts it up for sale as soon as they're ready to. Logos can't tell them to release it on a specific day. So there's some inevitable leakage while they finish putting the other pieces of the thing together for an announcement and public release. I think there was an "oopsie" on the website (something about a coupon? I missed that) which they blocked as soon as they found out about it. And they've been deleting forum threads that they find which give away too much detail about what's in this thing that we're not supposed to be talking about yet.

So I think we should just remain in this state of anticipatory suspense and enjoy it while it lasts. There will be surely some disappointment when we start finding bugs in the new thing, whatever it is. [:#][:)]

I remember doing that -- unwrapping at least one of my Christmas gifts that my parents had hidden behind the big chair in my Dad's study. When they found out I'd done it (kinda obvious; kids can't rewrap as neatly as Santa did), I wasn't allowed to have those presents for some time after Christmas. Now if I were to say anything more about what I might or might not know about this secret, I wouldn't be allowed to use it for a month after it ships. [;)]

You are correct, but it is much better now. Actually think some of those refineries have been shut down.

As a kid traveling to my Grandmother's on Long Island from PA we knew to roll up the car windows when we got near the refineries. Can't imagine living in the area at the time.
