LibreOffice Mac and Hebrew

I normally work in Mellel, but I want to be able to use doc and docx files. Given that my current version of Office will be unable to work with Lion and Mountain Lion, I was thinking of ditching MS altogether. How well does LibreOffice work with Hebrew on the Mac if the settings can be set for this language. Anyone have experience with this on the Mac?

Thread => Displaying Gentium Greek and SBL Hebrew in material pasted into MS Word 2011 (Mac) includes a screen shot of LibreOffice settings for complex text layout.

Good, I might just download it and begin the process of making it a preferred suite for at least some projects.
It's amazing that MS can't get this together. I understand that the underlying issue is being dealt with by Apple, but years of non-support by MS indicates to me that Mac users are second class citizens. I didn't bother to reinstall Office on my PC after it crashed. MS doesn't provide real motivation anymore.

To me, the Macintosh Business Unit is little more than a ploy to keep the US Justice Department's Anti-trust lawyers at bay.

I was thinking that it was to safeguard Gates' original investment in Apple, but practically nothing MS does seems to be above suspicion. Aren't government and lawyers redundant? [;)]

I'm unfamiliar with LibreOffice, but I don't really understand why Office won't work with Lion/ML. I have Lion and Office for Mac 2008 and it works great. What version of Office are you using that won't work? The only issue with L4 I've heard of is creating Hebrew language docs, due to the backward writing.
