Logos 5 crash after install
Loaded Logos 5 fine on both my PC and Mac at home. At the church tonight so I started the upgrade. Program seems to load, but now it crashes every time I start. I haven't tried figuring out a way around the crash yet, wanted to post logs first.

I suppose it would be helpful to clarify that I'm on a Mac running 10.8.2.

Chris, you do not have diagnostic logging for Logos 5 enabled. The Terminal command for logging in Logos 5 is:
defaults write com.logos.Logos LoggingEnabled -bool YES.
I couldn't glean anything particularly useful from the LogosError.log.

Here you go. This looks more helpful.

These logs are more helpful; thanks.
Unfortunately, I don't know what's causing this crash or if there's a workaround, but I've filed a bug report for our Mac experts to look into.

No problem, I'm home again anyway and wouldn't be able to try anything until Sunday at the earliest.

Can you upload or email your preferences database, located at /Users/chris/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Documents/kndkuxsx.ulr/LocalUserPreferences/PreferencesManager.db? You should be able to rename that file and open Logos successfully.

I'll upload it tomorrow and try renaming it then.

Unfortunately, it is still crashing. I removed the preferences db, tried Logos 5 again, crashed again. I noticed the indexer was running, killed it, then removed the preferences again (db and journal), started Logos, crash.
Logs attached. I've got the preferences db in there with the logs.

Chris, are you able to send /Users/chris/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Documents/kndkuxsx.ulr/UserPreferences/PreferencesManager.db then rename that database and relaunch?

Martin,
That's what I did (well, I deleted the preferences and relaunched). Tried it twice. The PreferencesManager.db should be in the zip file I attached earlier. I know it's the Logging folder, but out of laziness I put the preferences file in there with the logs for uploading.

Hi Chris,
The PreferencesManager.db attached in the zip file, was the one in the LocalUserPreferences directory, there is also a PreferencesManager.db stored in the UserPreferences directory with more preferences that are synced between machines, which Martin is referring to.

Ahh, oops. I must have just gone into the first Preferences folder to catch my eye. I'll try that when I get back to the office tonight.

me too, except mine is crashing when i'm searching the morphology of all verbs in a passage... its like i'm hitting the close program button by hitting search. it just shuts it down. This is not cool.

Well, I'm pretty sure I got the right preferences that time, but it still crashes.
I found both a UserPreferences and a UserPreferences2 folder, both had a PreferencesManager.db file that had been modified today. I've got both attached along with the logs (preference files under preferences/up and preferences/up2 for userpreferences and userpreferences2).
I'll note again that this is only happening on my office computer. Things are working (though sluggishly) on my home computer.

Chris, this crash should be fixed in 5.0 SR-4. Please let us know if you continue to experience this issue after updating. You will probably have to re-run the installer to update your program once SR-4 has shipped.

Where do I get the installer for 5? Updated to 5 from within Logos 4.

Enter "update now" in the command box (at the top) to check for updates and start the download.

Not possible when the program crashes immediately.

Since it crashes too quickly, open your email reciept/ confirmation email. There ought to be a download link in that email for you.
IF that does not work, you can repair your existing install in windows by navigating to add/remove programs, finding logos 5, and right clicking that icon, then choose "repair."
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Mac version, no repair link.
I'll be back in the office tomorrow so I'll see if it stays up long enough to start downloading the update. If not, I'll email support directly rather than asking for a download link on here.

Well I tried. [:(]
Mac doesn't have a reinstall feature? Ah well. It sounds like you know the steps to take then.
May the Lord give you peace.

Sorry, didn't realise that was the case.
The update download link in your order summary should always point to the latest version of the installer. You should be able to download the SR-4 DMG from that page.

Mac does have a reinstall feature called the Mac App Store. I am hesitant to suggest Logos move to that system since updates are so frequent and sometimes critical updates come very shortly after releases… but apps in the App Store notify you of updates by a badge icon on the App Store app (kind of like a "new mail" badge). Any program acquired (free or paid) via the App Store will work this way, including OS updates. The Mac App Store also works across ALL of your Macs. If you purchase an app via the App Store, the licensing agreement includes the ability to download and install on ANY of your Macs. If you need to reinstall an app, you can do it there as well.
