What PC Hardware is Best for Logos 6

It seems that over time the Logos gets slower as it grows. I have a fairly powerful computer and other hardware attached (i7-930 3.0 Ghz 4core/8thread CPU, 24 GB 1333 RAM, Samsung 500 GB SSD). I spend a lot of time reading and searching for material in Logos, and find that some books open very slow, (My largest book which is a compilation of about 10 volumes,

) takes almost 20 seconds to load. I realize that it is a very large resource, but I can't do anything about that, it comes up many times while searching for quotes, so I have to use it a lot.

Since I am getting to where I need a new computer and Logos is the software that I use the most of any of my software, I am thinking of building a new computer (PC) with Logos in mind.

What is the optimum hardware to use for Logos Software? What do the developers use? More Memory? More Speed?

Do I need a i7 CPU? Do I need lots of memory? What is the Best Hardware for my money for Logos software?

Fred something else if wrong. Your machine is way faster than mine.

I have a Pentium Dual Core 3.2 GHZ 4 Ram 240 Ssd.

I copied the file in the command bar and it opened right away. Something else is going on. Your machine exceed the specifications that Logos recommends. https://www.logos.com/support/logos5/hardware While it was written for Logos 5, it meets the requirements of Logos 6.

I agree with Lynden. My machine is similar to yours with far less RAM (8 GB) and a slightly slower processor (i7 but dual core) and my response is very snappy. And I have a very large library. Everything opens quickly and I can search my whole library in just a few seconds.

Lynden, The resource I am speaking of is "The Review and Herald, EGW". It is just as slow on my laptop also, although my laptop is newer it is not as powerful as my desktop. Sometimes I open several resources at a time (~20 usually from the EGW library), but my RAM isn't full so I don't think it is a RAM deficit issue.

Maybe I should instead ask, how to Optimize Logos for faster use?

Carl, My laptop has 8 GB on it also and I don't seem to run out of memory even with several (~20) resources opened at the same time, but some of the resources take a while to open or switch to from resource tab to resource tab.

Also I have a Silver library with all the Data Sets from the Crossgrade, and several other books that I have bought or made from the personal books tool.

It seems like things run a little better when I close all the resources, but then many take a while to re-open so I tend to leave them open if I will reuse them.

That rather depends on exactly what you're doing with Logos. A screenshot of your layout, or - even better - a short video of what you're finding slow will probably help us pinpoint the problem (assuming the problem is with the way you have Logos is set up). Usually slowness is caused by slow hardware (not in your case), too many or complex visual filters, too many linked resources/guides, the information continually updating. If you're doing a screencast or screenshot, show us the visual filter menu, and what you have linked.

(Edited to add: Like the others, I don't think upgrading your PC will help. Something else is wrong.)

A Screen Video. Here it is. I started with opening the large resource, then I clicked on the open resources to show that they were switching reasonably well until I got to the KJV and there was a small delay then everything was good until I clicked on the tab for the RH resource and there was a long delay opening it, but when it finally opened I could switch article dates quickly.

I'm guessing that you may have a very full drive and/or a lot of stuff running at the same time. No matter how fast your machine, if you have lots of open resources in Logos and other programs, It's going to take a bit longer.

I asked the Logos representative at a conference what I needed to run Logos 6 at a decent speed, and he told me "i5 (you don't need an i7), 8GB RAM, and enough disk space, and you should be good to go."

I agree that you need an i5 processor and 8 GB ram. And there is no doubt that an SSD will improve performance. It will run okay on less, but not as fast.

I love how it runs on my Surface Pro 2, which has the above hardware.

I should have bought a Surface Pro2. I bought a Lenovo ThinkTab2 for Win 8.1. Logos runs on it, but not too swiftly.

Well Maybe it's time to Re-load Windows 8, Sounds like my hardware should be good enough. I'll try to get the video fixed tonight, it is a good example of how slow the resource opens.

mab, My drive is 500 GB SSD and is about 1/2 or so full, not too full. But maybe you are right about the have lots of things running. I tend to do lots of tasks with my Home PC and Laptop, and I have lots of programs loaded on them. Form Cloud Drives (2) and Video Editing software, and MS Office, and other Text Editing software, like OmniPage and PaperPort, as well as Kindle App, and work and DataBase software.

OK, finally I got this video to work. I checked and it is uploaded with the share address below.

You can see that it is very slow, and I check the visual filters in the video and show that all the note filters are off. Then I switch to another resource tab and then back and you can see how long it takes to come back to this resource. When in the resource you can see that I can switch from the first to the last article and some in the middle without any hesitation.

My best guess is that the Table of Contents in this resource contains so many entries that it is very slow to display. I would recommend turning off that panel in this particular resource.

Unfortunately, this resource was produced by a third-party, so I'm not sure if we can get the resource file corrected.

I have LLS:900.2.2022 as well and it opens instantly after I hit enter without the contents and if I open it with the table of contents panel open it takes about 3 secs so there is a big difference.
