Recommendations?

Ok, you guys are always so helpful, so I am wanting your suggestions and thoughts.  After you guys helped me show my new Pastor that LOGOS is better than Wordsearch/ Quickverse, now I need to find the best package/ combination to get him in.

We are a southern Baptist church, but he is reformed in his theology.  So some combination of Reformed and Baptist are in view here.

So considering base packages, and Topical Bundles- what combinations would you recommend (no higher than Platinum- because cost is always a factor)?

Thank you in advance.

Pretty simple: Standard Platinum. It has the best selection of commentaries by far.

Back-up: Standard Gold plus an upgrade to either Reformed Gold or Baptist Gold afterward (depending on the cost).

I would go for Gold, I do not find the difference between Gold and Platinum worth it.

Additionally would completely depend on your pastor. I would really go for things like the IVP reference collection or WBC. But I am no baptist, so what do I know.... :P

an idea of budget would be helpful. Your best bet is usually base package, plus other things to fill the gaps.

OR you can do like I've done, and just buy one of every base package. ;)

Well then, with Standard, you get the IVPNTC, Black, Warren Wiersbe, Nac Lange and Calvin.

With Baptist you get: Gill (reformed baptist), Holman ntc, ivpntc, and nac to name a few.

With Reformed, you get:NAC, Calvin, Lange, Poor Mans (spurgeons favorite commentary). You also get Warfield, Owen, Bunyan, and edwards collections (edwards is a two book collection... lame that it wasn't the whole enchilada, but better than nothing).

If it were up to me, I'd get As you can see from my signature, I own all three :)

If I had to pick just one, I'd be torn between all three. I like wiersbe (and have lange in print), Owen and Bunyan are two of my personal heroes. Gill is something I've been waiting ages for, and am excited to own a license to. IVP stuff is pretty solid, and NAC is pretty baptist. I think if I had to just choose one, I'd probably ... get a loan, and then get all three. Joking. You and your pastor will have to work out which of those commentary sets, and "works of" sets are most valuable to his ministry, and then make the decision based upon that. Base packages are like pringles "you can't have just one" or said differently "once you pop, pa pa pa pa pa pa pop" you just can't stop :).

The best value is in the base pkgs.

There are some titles that are not included in any pkg.

Before spending all your funds for a base pkg, I would suggest reviewing what other "must have" extras to be included in your initial purchase. You can always upgrade base pkgs later, by basically paying the difference between the 2 pkgs.

If there are resources in a higher base pkg that you think you might want to add later, upgrading the base pkg is almost always cheaper than adding it separately.

Mark Barnes has provided a comprehensive spreadsheet of all the base pkg content:  https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=BB20E208EE81DAD6%21109430&ithint=file%2Cxlsx&app=Excel&authkey=%21AOolWMIygqNs8Vo

The IVP Essentials Collection and the 8 vol. IVP Dictionary set are some of the most highly recommended add-ons. Fortunately, you can add these and other popular add-ons when purchasing a base pkg and get the best pricing available. A salesman can help you on the details.

That is great guys, maybe by sharing personally how you have your library would be helpful- IF you are a baptist pastor.

    Thanks again.

Well I meet that criterion. I am an SBC pastor, but not of reformed theology. I have a large library which of course, is not where your pastor will start.

Currently I have Standard Platinum, Baptist Platinum, Reformed Silver, Anglican Starter, and the Chaplain's Library. (I got most of those will deep discounts because of dynamic pricing). I also have the Baptist Studies large collection. (Perhaps this is over-kill, but I added lots of resource for well under $1.00 a piece.)

In addition I have many other commentaries including Word, NICOT/NICNT, Tyndale, NIV Application, some ICC volumes, etc.

I have HALOT which is not in Platinum but necessary for Hebrew language study.

I have the old Galaxie journal collections (which aren't the deal they were before Logos took them over).

I have Anchor-Yale Bible Dictionary, the essential IVP Resource collection (one your pastor will want), and a whole lot more.

Again, Standard Platinum is for me a great starting point to build a library upon. One can then use dynamic pricing to add another base package that may have some of the theological or denominational resources one might wish to have.

Depending on his budget, it really looks like Baptist Platinum then adding Standard Gold afterwards would give a very beefy library.  Of course some supplementals like BDAG/HALOT and IVP Essential Reference would need to be sought to add also.

    Thank you all.
