Swapped an SSD into my 2010 iMac...

And boy has it made a difference. It's a 2010 i5 2.8Ghz, 8Gb Ram, 27". I put in a 500 Gb Ssd from Crucial after reading this review from Anandtech.

I think I might up my RAM to 12 as well.

I ordered the necessary tools (Specialized Torx wrenches) from OWC , and followed the instructions from fixit. You DO need to be careful, as some of it is fine work. I had a friend from Apple come look over my shoulder. Probably not necessary, but made me feel better.

Logos loads itself and my layouts MUCH faster. That's not to say there's no beachball anymore, but we're talking a few seconds instead of 20.

The more RAM the better. Yosemite doesn't seem to have any problem tying up nearly 4GB RAM and that's before running Logos. I still don't have an SSD in my Mac but I have 16GB RAM and Logos will gobble all the RAM during indexing. On an SSD , it will tie up some disk space during indexing.

I prefer this over an i5 second generation processor with 8 GB of Ram. The Ssd, makes all the difference.

Nice, great job. I would love to have a 1TB SSD in our 2013 27" iMac. However opening it up is much more involved and difficult than your 2010 iMac, and besides it still has about 18 months of Apple care remaining. Have fun with your new speed demon. [:D]
