[resolved] Transfer Logos 6 and all data to a newly formatted existing Macbook Pro or a new Macbook

I am planning to either format my current Mac laptop or get a new Mac laptop. What is the best and fastest way to transfer all (I want it to be the exact user experience as I have currently) my logos data to the newly formatted mac or to a new laptop without going through the downloading option because it took a month of downloading when I upgraded from Logos 5 to 6.

Also, if I plan to move my compuer again later, do you think it is better to keep all logos data installed in an external hard drive? If so, how can I install everything to an external hard drive so that a move to another computer would be hassle free.

If you mean "can I save the data on an external hard drive so I can install more quickly" the answer is "yes". If you mean "can I install Logos on an external hard drive so that it doesn't matter which computer I am using the answer is "no." (Technically the answer is "yes," but it isn't supported, I don't know how, and if you knew how you wouldn't be asking. [;)])

Also worth noting that there were some bugs causing long download times for Logos 6 on Yosemite which might have caused the issues you refer to. These have now been resolved so download times should be a lot shorter - but Alabama's advice is good.

Do you use Time Machine to back up? If so, that would probably be the easiest and quickest way. If you don't want to do a full restore because of problems with your setup, you could simply restore the data folder then use the method that Graham has pointed you to above. In either case there shouldn't be a need to download everything again.

when I changed my primary drive on my iMac to an SSD drive (goes great!) and I didn't have to download or index anything.

However I would add/update a couple of points.

Make sure you do an update check on your Logos installation to make sure you are on the latest version of the software plus have all current resources downloaded and indexed.
Basically copy the Logos data folder from drive A to drive B. Either two step, or the way I did it, directly from A to B. It is critical that your account name (including case sensitivity) is exactly the same. OS X (being Unix) is has case sensitive folders. So /users/fred is not the same as /users/Fred and your home folder name is taken from your login name.
Point 5 in instruction link above, one difference - do not start Logos the first time and look to see if it prompts for username and then copy the files/folders mentioned. Copy the files/folders and then start Logos. It should go straight in.

Those two folders contain information specific to your own Logos installation - including the randomly generated ID for the Logos data folder. So makes sense to me to copy them before launching the Logos app for the first time.
