If I understand it correctly, when I have sympathetic highlighting checked, I should see my highlighting in the various Bibles I have open. This is no the case. For example, my highlights in the NRSV do not appear in the ESV or NIV.
Do you have sympathetic highlighting selected in each version you are trying to compare? That is to say, if I want to highlight something in the NRSV and see it automatically highlighted in the ESV and NIV, I would need to make sure sympathetic highlighting is selected for each for these texts.
Unfortunately, your understanding is incorrect. "Sympathetic highlighting" has nothing to do with regular note highlights.
"Notes" can be attached by "reference" or by "selection." Notes attached by "reference" will appear in any and all versified resources at the appropriate verse marker. Highlighting notes, by definition, are notes of "selection." That is to say, you select the text you want to highlight... from paragraphs, sentences, clauses, words or even single characters. They are attached to the surface text. There is no way to highlight something in one bible and have the highlighting appear in another translation.
Sympathetic highlighting, is something completely different. First, the "highlighting" isnt a note like regular highlighting... and it is merely a temporary visual cue. Sympathetic highlighting works with the underlying reverse interlinear. When you select a word or phrase, any other bible with a reverse interlinear will "highlight" (temporarily) the corresponding phrase or word.

The two screen shots below show the differences between regular highlights and "sympathetic" highlighting. The first screen shot shows a passage highlighted in the NIV. Nothing appears in the ESV. The second screen shot shows that I have made a selection in the NIV (notice the blue "highlight"... not a real highlight, just a selection "highlight"). The ESV shows the corresponding passage (based on the underlying reverse interlinear data) "highlighted" in grey. Once I click elsewhere so that the selection in the NIV is no longer active, all "highlights" disappear.

Logos renamed the "Sympathetic Highlighting" feature "Corresponding Selection"
It now falls under the RESOURCE dropdown in Visual Filters.
