Logos Now vs Logos Cloud

Faithlife may tar and feather me for leaking this out early, but here goes...

Someone invited me to join the Logos Cloud Faithlife group tonight. It mentions various Logos Cloud plans ranging in different monthly prices:

https://faithlife.com/logos-cloud/about

Now I am officially, overwhelmingly confused. What in the world is the difference between Logos Cloud and Logos Now? If I go for Logos Cloud come time when it does launch, will I need Logos Now?

What's the difference between Logos Cloud and Logos 6 base packages?

I have Logos 6 Platinum and Logos Now. Do I even need Logos Cloud, and will it appeal to me at all?

I know Faithlife hasn't even formally announced this yet, and sorry for spilling the beans early, but after putting Logos 6 Platinum on a payment plan and haven't even started paying on it yet (since I still have to pay off the journals) and signing up for Logos Now, seeing Logos Cloud throws a ton of confusion into the mix for me (and makes my credit card hurt just thinking about it).

I know Faithlife will answer these questions in due time, but I am totally confused right now at how to even process this.

Thanks!

There is this as well, so I guess Faithlife does at least have an official page up about it and haven't kept it entirely under wraps.

What in the world is the difference between Logos Cloud and Logos Now?

Logos Now is an add-on for your Logos 6 Base Package.

Logos Cloud is subscription-based access to Logos Bible Software tools and content. (It's a replacement for a Logos 6 base package.)

    See https://community.logos.com/forums/t/105182.aspx for more details.

    Thanks, Bradley.

Phil's post and link to Logos Cloud is most helpful.

Original invitation I received to Logos Cloud forum contained no further information.

    Grateful for the updates.

Thanks for the info! After reading Phil's post, here's a question I have. I'm on Logos 6 Platinum with Logos Now currently. I'm eventually looking at Diamond and possibly going even higher. When the time comes for me to get "Diamond", should I just direct purchase L6 Diamond and keep Logos Now, or would I be better off transitioning over to Logos Cloud? Or would it be best to totally hold off and transition to Logos Cloud closer to when the "next generation of Logos" launches?

I don't mind the subscription "base package replacement" model especially if it gains me access to more books and continually updated datasets. However, I'm just not sure of the best timing when to look into moving to Logos Cloud.

Here's what I was going to tell Bob in "the document" that I haven't been able to writeup for him yet to send him feedback on. "If" there was a way Faithlife/Logos could pull off an "all access" license to all things Faithlife (Logos, Vyrso, etc) in the a little over the $100+/month range where I'd never have to purchase another book, I'd be interested. When I add up how much I generally spend with Faithlife/Logos per month in book purchases and payment plans, most of the time I'm well over the $100+/month range. If there was a way to move to "all access" and know I could fire up Logos and gain access to anything, anytime, I'd love it.

There's a few details you'd need to flesh out before offering such an offering though, and I've actually figured out some ways you'd be able to do that. I need to give you the feedback.

When the time comes, you should look at the current contents of Logos Diamond, the current contents of the various Logos Cloud options, consider how much "owning" (vs renting) is important to you, your monthly budget (for a subscription or a payment plan) and make the choice that's right for your needs.

Much more information on the contents of the Logos Cloud libraries will be coming soon, so stay tuned.

What Bradley said. Something else to consider: Payment plans have an end point at which time you own the resources. If you end a subscription plan, you own nothing.

    Bradley,

Is the web-based app available to Logos Now users the same web-based app for Logos Cloud users? The primary difference being the source of resources (base package / owned vs. "rented" via Cloud) and perhaps the features exposed in the web apps?

If so, will there ever be application features and/or datasets available in Cloud that are not in any way available in Logos Now (or just a desktop version)?

    Thanks,

    Donnie

True. Eventually, I'd be OK with a Logos Cloud subscription especially if it meant fewer resources I have to direct purchase. I've already moved to Office 365 and Adobe CC versus direct purchasing Office and keeping a direct copy of Photoshop on hand. The big deal I want to see in Logos Cloud is this:

    1. High end base package replacement

    2. Continuous updates to new datasets, interactive resources, journals, etc.

    3. Access to high-end content I'd love to be able to direct purchase but can't budget at the moment (EEC, WBC, etc.).

Between what I'm paying in payment plans and just what I purchase per month in Logos resources, if I can get more from Logos Cloud for less, it'd be appealing. When my payment plan is up, while I own the resources, I'm usually talked into upgrading to a larger base package and starting a whole new or even higher payment plan all over again, since I know deep down, I want it. :-)

    Yes.

Access to features may be limited based on the content you own. For example, the Atlas feature requires Logos 6 Maps (e.g., https://www.logos.com/product/45671/logos-6-maps-volume-1). If, say, the smallest Cloud library didn't include these maps (and I have no idea if that will be the case or not) you would not have access to the Atlas at app.logos.com.

If so, will there ever be application features and/or datasets available in Cloud that are not in any way available in Logos Now (or just a desktop version)?

I suppose that's theoretically possible, but there are no plans for that right now. We're currently working on catching App.Logos.com up to the features already in Logos 6 (on the desktop).

Logos Now and Logos Cloud are great ideas...but..when is Logos going to allow users with existing libraries access to a more powerful and feature-rich web site?  My Chromebooks would like to know!  [:)]

They are working on this with the new web app - it is just in the early stages. Good to see the start of Passage Guide functionality and the Atlas appearing

Yes! Exactly. I am enjoying ChromeOS on my Chromebooks much more than I ever enjoyed Windows. So I am still waiting for an answer to that very question. Thanks for asking it.

    Hey

Do I get anything i Logos Cloud Essentials, that I do not get in Logos Now!

    Yes

Logos Cloud (including Essentials) is about providing access to resources and features, primarily intended for those without base packages

Logos Now provides a full set of features and some additional capabilities primarily to those with an existing base package or those with a large set of resources who want access to the full set of features

Resources includes in Logos Cloud Essentials are shown at https://logoscloud.com/products/138568/logos-cloud-essentials

    Does that help at all?
