The Preacher's Outline & Sermon Bible

While searching through the PrePub page, I came across a real gem: The Preacher’s Outline & Sermon Bible. Those who have used it can attest to its value- 1) it provides both an exegetical & expositional outline, 2) identifies and defines key words, and 3) suggests a possible development of the sermon. Like any other commentary or sermon archive, this resource can be an invaluable tool- IMO surpassing the usefulness of TDOT. Can we get this pushed into production?

I have some of these in paper and while I don't always agree with the theology they do make sermon prep shorter.

Well its been a long time coming, but its finally nearing production! I suspect we only need a few more bids and it'll be pushed over the top. For those who are unfamiliar with this set, it is a top-notch... not to mention quite a steal for this price.

Can we get some sample pages on the product page? I'd like to see more what the outline part looks like.

I'm not as familiar with the other works, but based upon their product pages several observations are noteworthy. 1) The Baker Sermon Outlines (50 vol.) appears to be a collection of short pamphlets totaling 3,021 pages (about 200 words per page and 300 words per outline- extremely brief), with no real exegetical insight. 2) The Sermon Outline Bible Commentary (12 vol.) appears to be a collection of older sermon outlines (nearly 4,800 outlines by Spurgeon, MacLaren, Nicoll, and others from the late 19th and early 20th centuries) totaling 5,143 pages. Based upon the page count, each outline is little more than a page, giving no space for exegesis or development. Unfortunately, there are no sample pages on the product page. 3) In contrast, The Preacher's Outline & Sermon Bible is a massive collection of 43 vol., containing over 16,000 pages, and approximately 500- 800 words per page (non-outline pages). The series provides multiple outlines for most passages, identifies/ defines key words, provides explanations on debatable issues, and suggests various applications. For any pastor/ teacher who may be pressed for time, this series is a great place to start (after the Bible itself!).

This is scheduled to ship on Friday. I am debating canceling my pre-pub order for this before then due to tight budgets. I have two questions...
1) What is the general theological perspective of the set?
2) Is there any way to find out what the "regular" price of the set will become if I need to wait until next year to get it.

One more question...
3) I already have a very extensive commentary collection. What value does a set like this add for the $$$?

JH,
I have several volumes in paper, and I have found them invaluable- they're great for teaching in-depth Bible studies. Though they touch on significant theological issues, they are not commentaries; they provide expositional outlines, exegetical insights (key words, historical background, etc.), and focus on application (its pretty in depth). The set has helped streamline my preparation for Wednesday nights and has been very well received. If you can afford it, I would encourage you to buy them now. I doubt you will regret it.

Greg,
I’ll try to answer each of your questions in turn:
1) The general theological perspective is not identified (e.g. Baptist, Methodist, Lutheran, etc.), but based upon their statement of faith- https://www.outlinebible.org/learn/statement-of-faith/ and what I’ve seen, it is solidly evangelical.
2) According to the Logos site the prepub price is $499, the regular price will be $699, and the paper set sells for $1,380.
3) Like you, I also have an extensive commentary collection (NICOT/NT, PNTC, AYB, WBC, NIGNT, ICC, BECNT/ OT, EBC, NIVAC, TOTC/NT, etc.), but I’ve found this resource to be extremely useful in preparing Bible studies. The material fosters group discussion and lends itself to application. I simply use other commentaries when addressing larger/ controversial theological issues.
