Delay in dropdown completion for parallel resources when that resource has the focus.

When I click on the parallel resources drop down when a commentary has the focus, the first time I do it, it takes about 5 seconds to display. If I then click inside the commentary again, click on the drop down again, it then takes about 3 seconds to display. In both cases, the spining stroboscope appears while it is delayed.

If however, a different resource has the focus and I click on the parallel resource drop down on that open commentary, the menu is displayed almost instantly. It is actually quicker for me to click on my bible, then on the commentary parallel drop down.

To be honest, I like the instant appearing behaviour much better than the 3-5 second delay.

Do you have your Bible and Commentary linked?

I think what might be happening is that if you change the scripture reference in the commentary as you browse, Parallel Resources goes through the process of trying to find other resources that also have the same reference available. In other words If you were in James 4:7 and open parallel resources it looks for other commentaries you have that also have a reference to James 4:7. Takes a few seconds. After that if you scroll down and DON'T see the reference in the locator box change, you'll get almost instantaneous opening of the parallel resource menu. If you DO happen to change the reference being displayed, L4 has to search all the possible parallel resources again for the new reference. Same few seconds.

In other words, Parallel resources are not static but dynamic. Logos constantly updates the list based on what is in the reference/locator box. Cahnge what's in the box and the process has to be repeated.

Why this seems to behave differently going from your commentary to your Bible and back again is a mystery to me.

I do have the resources linked, but I am not scrolling anything, just changing which pane has focus.However, this is changing the reference in the commentary even though nothing scrolls. This sucks in my opinion.

When I click on the bible, it's reference changes, but since this behaviour does not seem to change the linked resources, the commentary reference does not change and the menu appears instantly.

The clicking on the text changes the reference in the commentary,
but the bible does not scroll to match. It seems that the purpose of
this feature (changing the reference) is only to cause the delay in
displaying Clinton's parallel menu. I cannot see any other behaviour of
the changing reference in the commentary. None of the linked resources
are affected.

Logos - is there anything that should happen when the reference in a linked resource is changed by clicking on a different part of the text?

I hope Logos is not using the spinning strobe to hypnotize me and then send subliminal messages.

Clinton, this behaviour existed before Parallel Resources and it came about because many L3 users wanted the active reference to change without having to scroll ie. by just clicking! The main issue for scrolling depends on the commentary, which may lag the bible until a certain verse is reached! This will impact Parallel Resources, but not beneficially as there always has to be a delay when you first click the icon for a verse, and if it's the wrong verse you have to do it again.

So when you change panes try to click the tab and not the text. Ditto when you close the Parallel Resources menu.

Hi Dave,

I was definitely one of the people who wanted the active reference to change, and I've noticed this before, but apart from the active reference changing in the display, is there anything that happens?

If I go to the active reference box and press enter, nothing happens that I can see. If I delete a character then retype it in, then press enter, it will move the active reference to be the top of the pane.

If I use the cursor key, the active reference reverts to +/- one verse that was at the top, not the verse I clicked on.

The only thing that seems to be affected if I click on a reference and then click on the up/down arrows at the top of the pane (my delta setting is set to "verse") so then it moves the active verse by one more/less than the verse I clicked on and also all the linked resources then follow.

Am I missing anything? It seems that if I click on a verse to make it the active reference, the linked resources should follow.

I thought that was where you were heading as the behaviour of scrolling is still predicated on the actual verse at the top. But it has the effect that Parallel Resources will seek for the new active verse, put it at the top in the new resource AND cause the linked book to scroll.
