Hi Tess,
click on Tools and there you will see highlighting. listed. Just click on this and the highlighting window will open. Once you open it, you can even "drag" the top part of the window that say Highlighting" to the "shortcut" area besides the Command box. Then whenever you want to highlight a word, you can just click on your icon for highlighting and it will open the highlighting palette for you.
When you want to highlight a word with a color or symbol, first highlight the word in your Bible text by dragging your mouse across the word. then click on the color or symbol in your highlighting window and voila, your word is now color coded the way you want!
Hope this helps!

I prefer inductive study myself. Once you identify the repeated words - (e.g. immediately in Mark), you can use visual filters to mark them.

Hi Tes, it's only 5:30pm here. I'm often up way past 2:00AM in my time zone on this Forum, though. [:)]
Answering your question to Terry about how to do inductive Bible study, there is a ministry which many Logos users are familiar with and have been trained in their methods, called Precept, started by Kay Arthur. Their website is http://www.precept.org. They probably don't have a training class in your country, but at least you can get an idea of what is involved from their overview sheet: http://www.precept.org/site/DocServer/InductiveStudyOverview_1-Sheet.pdf?docID=701

Tes, there are basically two ways (or more) to make a visual filter:
1. Go to File: and choose visual filter, then if you know which words you want, you set your range, enter the words, then choose the formatting for each word.
The second way is to do your search first, which will give you a good idea of how many hits you are going to get, then if it is satisfactory, choose "Make filter" on the top of the search. This will take you to a visual filter form where you enter your formatting.

Here's a free Precepts For Life study guide available to show you the method (it's for the 2nd part of Jeremiah): http://www.precept.org/site/PageServer?pagename=brd_PFL_download_current
More archived free PFL downloads here: http://www.precept.org/site/PageServer?pagename=brd_PFL_download_archive
Also here is a sample chapter from their Precepts Upon Precepts Bible Study series -- it's for the book of Ephesians:
http://store.precept.org/download/PUP_Ephesians_Excerpt.pdfAlso Kay Arthur's How To Study Your Bible explains the whole Precepts Inductive Bible Study method. Unfortunately, it's not in Logos format (yet), but you can order it online for about $11 USD + shipping: http://store.precept.org/p-358-how-to-study-your-bible.aspx
Please note that I've never used any of Precepts materials so I'm not personally familiar with them (though I did get introduced to the method in a class on leading small group Bible studies, among many other methods that we studied), so I'm not endorsing this particular training organization, just pointing out that other Logos users have recommended it.

Tes, here is a link to where I asked other people about how they used Logos to do inductive bible study, Rosie pointed you toward Precept, which I use. But there are links to other inductive study sites in that thread as well, including a couple of free ones.

Eventually the sermon feature will allow one to stay within Logos.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

The documentation on Highlighting is pretty minimal right now. Just what's in the Help file, and this brief note on the wiki. I believe Kevin is planning to fill out that wiki page once 4.0b ships, since the Highlighting feature has been greatly expanded since then. In the meantime, here's all I have time to offer you:
Open the Highlighting tool using Tools | Highlighting.
It looks like this (you can expand and collapse the different sections by clicking on their titles).
To highlight some text, select the text you want to highlight, and click on a highlighting style. Pressing Ctrl+K will apply that same selected highlighting style which is now the current one (you can only have one current highlighting style at a time).
You can keep the highlighting tool open in a panel (usually it comes up by default as a narrow panel on the left) if you're going to be using various different highlight colors. Or if you're just going to use one color, you can close the panel and go about making selectings and using Ctrl+K to apply the current highlighting style to the selection.
To erase highlighting, select the highlighted text and click Erase (on the upper right of the Highlighting panel).

Sure!
Let's say that you are studying Isaiah Chapter 1 and you have marked a key word (one that is repeated) such as iniquity. You can then do a search on Isaiah 1 for "iniquity" and this will show you all the places in Isaiah 1 where iniquity is mentioned. The problem will be is that you will also want to mark synonyms the same way. So in the case of Isaiah 1, there would also be the words: rebel (rebelled), sinners (sinful), evil (evildoers). Once you have marked a key word and its synonyms, then do a search on that chapter that you are studying for all of these words. This should show you if you missed marking any of these words.
Hope that helps, Tess!

Rosie thanks but I know how to do that, thats not what I was talking bout. Kay Arthur has a highlighting method that she uses that is what I was talking about. Does anybody know or have anything like that, the highlighting method she uses or anything you have created?

Hi Jerry,
Actually the symbols that Kay (or Precept) uses are partially used in the highlighting section. If you see in the diagram above that Rosie used, you see the header "Inductive." Those symbols are some of the ones that are used by Kay. Logos 4 doesn't have all of them, but hopefully when the present beta is released, there will be more or we will have the ability to add our own.
Hope this is what you were asking for.

Thank you Jerry. Well my question is let's say I am studying Romans 1:1-7 ,the'' Gospel'' is repeated ,''called'' is repeated ,if I have overlooked to see any Word or name ,like Christ, that is what I mean.Whether ,there is any possibility ,which shows me automatically.
Blessings in Christ.

Hi Tess,
I don't think there is anything that will "do the studying" for you![:)] But it is the actual reading and re-reading of the text that helps us learn! So, as you read, I would mark one key word (and synonyms = pronouns or words that are speaking of the same key word). Then I would re-read the text and mark another key word, using a different color and or symbol. I would continue doing this until I had marked the key words for that passage. You want to be careful not to mark every word, because then it becomes "too cluttered" to see what is being emphasized.
So, if I was studying Romans 1:1-7, I would definitely mark in the same color and/or symbol Jesus and all the synonyms that refer to Him. After all, one of the purposes of studying the Bible is so that we will know God and our Lord better! So, in this case, I would have marked "Christ Jesus", Son, who (when it is referring to Jesus), and Lord all the same way. I also would take another color/symbol and mark all the references to God, which would be God, he (when it refers to God the Father), his (when it refers to God), and Father.
After you have marked the words, then you want to think about the truths that you are learning and how do these truths relate to your life?
Hope this helps!

I have done the same as you have mentioned, but one thing is what I have quoted above the word ''Lord'' I could be wrong, but I think the word 'Lord' how can I mark it as Jesus,is'nt that what it tells who Jesus is.If I ask who is Jesus,I can have the answer Jesus is Lord.So I think the word Lord is who he is .not He.
I am ready to learn humbly.
God bless you!

In the thread which I referred you to earlier (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/10442.aspx), Esther Jones has a good suggestion: try looking at the "Interesting Words" section of a Passage Guide. It will show you the relative frequency of keywords in that passage. The larger the font, the more frequently that word appears in your passage. So for example, in Romans 1:1-7, the Interesting Words "wordle" you get is this:
As you click on each word, it expands the details for that word down below. It looks to me like call is in the largest font, so I click on call, and I see this:
Do that for all the "big words" and you'll have your answer as to what are the most often repeated words in the passage.

Your email address is private; it is not revealed to users of the Forum. And that's a good thing. Otherwise we'd all be getting lots of spam.

Oh yes! I forgot that you were the one who mentioned Amharic. There are so many users on this Forum that I've gotten to know -- sometimes I get them confused. [:)] But since I don't know Amharic, I never would have guessed what gender your name is. Thanks for letting me know. In English it isn't always easy to tell, since people use "unisex" names sometimes (Mel, Pat, Fran, etc.), and sometimes intentionally give their female kids a traditionally male name and vice versa. Rosie is pretty much always a female name, but I suppose there could be exceptions. The closest exception I know of (pronounced the same way as my name) is Rosey Grier the football player -- it was a nickname for Roosevelt.
Blessings!

Tes,
that chart is automatically generated in the passage guide under the "interesting words" section. It will be different in appearance, but should contain the same words each time.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

Sorry, Jerry, I misread your question. Charlene has pretty much answered your question. 4.0b does indeed have the ability to create custom highlighting styles, so if the built-in ones included in the "Inductive" section aren't enough for you, you can make your own.
