FL is trying to sell us an incomplete set for $159.99

Liturgical Press is pre selling the complete 2 volume set containing all the small booklets for $64.95....

I personally am cancelling my pre-pub for the logos edition. I will purchase a hard copy rather than the overpriced FL version that is incomplete.

To my knowledge, our pre-pub is complete. The separate OT volumes contain everything found in the single-volume OT, and, at the time we posted the pre-pub they were the only format available. (And, in comparison to the cost of buying the complete set in that format in print, I don't think our price is unreasonable.)

We're looking into whether Liturgical Press is interested in offering the single-volume OT for Logos/Verbum, as we would probably be able to price that more competitively.

I noticed that LP has a bundle of all the individual volumes for $289.  Each of those I believe have the biblical text with commentary and some study questions.  That would be somewhat different than the two volume set OT/NT for $65.  That would only have the commentary, I think.

I do know that the original version of this series (1990's) was the same and the large one volume print did not have either the biblical text not the questions - just the commentary.

When I look at the picture on the product page you would be led to believe that it is some hybrid - all the OT individual volumes with the single volume NT.  It's hard to tell it's its going to be a mixture of commentary only or commentary and questions.  LP has the OT individual volumes at $199.

You bring up a good point, Dan.  I only care about the commentary and it does seem high at $159.  I would like to see some different packaging options.

Thirty-seven volumes are included in the complete set.

Indeed.  Those are the individual volumes, both OT and NT.  37 individual volumes for $289.

What Faithlife has packaged in the original link provided is individual OT volumes and a comprehensive 1 volume NT.  Hence my comment "hybrid".  It appears the individual volumes include discussion questions and are priced differently than the 1 volume edition, whether OT or NT.

The individual OT volumes are for sale by the publisher as a complete set (25 vols) for $199.

It is a confusing way to package these resources for sure.  I agree, why not the 1 volume OT and 1 volume NT as the publisher does?  It would be in the same category as the complete 1 volume original from 1989 that Faithlife sells today.

So if this was the complete with the 25 OT volumes and the 1 NT volume wouldn't that add up to 26 volumes???? I just hope FL corrects this and can offer a 2 volume set for a reasonable price, Otherwise I likely will by the ebook OT for $37 and convert it into a Logos personal book.

So if this was the complete with the 25 OT volumes and the 1 NT volume wouldn't that add up to 26 volumes????

The discrepancy is due to the fact that we've combined the Psalms into a single volume.

As I said, at the time, this was the most economical way of packaging the complete commentary, as the 1 volume OT didn't exist. That's changed now, and we're working on getting a new license for 1 volume OT.

I look forward to seeing the 2 volume version offered as a set. [:)]

I realize now I came across overly critical.  Sorry about that, Louis.

As always, the Catholic products team is doing a great job!

No problem. In retrospect, now that the 1 volume OT is out, the product we're offering is indeed an odd hybrid. Obviously, we didn't expect it to be out so soon after we posted it. Maybe there was some miscommunication between us and Liturgical Press on that. Hopefully we can get it straightened out.

    Thanks.

And apologies if I seemed overly picky. I look forward to getting the 2 volume set pre ordered when offered.

Liturgical Press has now released a single-volume edition of the NCBC, and with new leadership on the Faithlife Verbum team, this might be a good time to revisit this thread.

The $160 Pre-Pub pricing for a 25-volume amalgam doesn't seem very tenable for this lightweight commentary, but it doesn't appear any progress was made over the past couple years in terms of working out a better product package with the publisher.

The NCBC would be worth purchasing in the price range that Liturgical Press is offering their ebook versions of either the single- or dual-volume editions, but I wouldn't pay twice that or more just to have it in Logos format. Any chance this can be re-worked as a more affordable edition?

Good catch, John.  I would suggest putting this info in a Suggestion or a separate post with different subject to Craig and Thomas to see if we can get some movement.

New Collegeville Bible Commentary Single volume will likely never be offered. I say this in the fact the set is listed as being under development. To revelope the work into a single volume that costs less than half the current offering would make no sense. Faithlife should stop development of the individual volumes and work on the one volume version. Work would not be all in vain because the one volume contains the same commentary text and would just need the paging tags adjusted. But I have no idea what they will do but not holding my breath for the logical change that would result in many more sales for them.

PS:Traditionally the 1 volume has no printed Biblical text so it would be removed too, but removal of unneeded text should be a minor thing. I have canceled my preorder of the this set and suggest everyone else does as well... If FL will now offer the one volume I will happily buy the PDF version.
