Nelson's New Illustrated Bible Dictionary - 35 pages and 8 maps missing !

The missing contents are as follows:

1. Front Page with the picture of "Traditional Tomb of Barnabas on the island of Cyprus in the Mediterranean Sea."

2. Contents of the Dictionary on Pages vii - viii.

3. Introduction to the Visual Survey of the Bible on Pages xix - xlii. These pages are filled with numerous Biblical Charts.

4. Bible History on Pages xliii - xlv.

5. Picture of "A Spectacular View of the Dead Sea, situated at the lowest point on Earth in the Hot Desert Wilderness of Southern Palestine" on Page xlvi.

6. Index to Maps at the back of the book on 4 Pages.

7. 8 Maps at the back of the book.

FAITHLIFE should get on this ASAP. How they could let this happen is just beyond me. This is not good customer service at all. Actually it is ridiculous and absurd. We pay for the whole book, not books with pages missing.

Thank you for your thoroughness. This type of omission poses important questions about the process of creating (and tagging) digital resources. Such resources are filled with potential and promise, but only if painstakingly checked and rechecked before release, and after. This process of conversion and confirmation of data integrity and quality must be absolutely Job #1 for Faithlife, with new platform features secondary. Print editions are the standard that e-resources are improving upon, so the e-resource must begin with complete fidelity to the print source. I ask as a brother and fellow businessman - are the "by hand" processes for producing Logos editions truly comprehensive, including contents review? This appears to be an automation error of some kind. The Logos platform, however capable, is reduced to a mere e-reader unless the resources in it are the best they can be.

    Grace and peace. <><

    1. Thank you for bringing this to out attention.
    2. This was produced in 2001. Two things to keep in mind about that: 1) we worked with materials we were provided. This often meant maps weren't included usually due to issues of quality. 2) In 2001 we weren't interested in being facsimiles of print resources. Often we purposefully left things out such as page milestones and indices. It was updated once to provide Factbook support.
    3. Since then we've been going back an updating resources like this one. We've recently acquired print for NBID to go back and add among other things: page milestones, indexes, or otherwise omitted material.
    4. We've actually hit a hiccup in the update process as the material we acquired is missing the front matter all together. Updating this resource will require us to acquire the missing material.

It is understandable how this happened. None of the content is part of the body of the book and was probably not submitted to Logos for publication.

I agree Faithlife needs to fix this ASAP but I don't want them to drop everything else they are working on to address this issue.

Lastly, this is a Quality Assurance issue, not a Customer Service issue.

The maps you refer to at the back of the book and that are referenced numerous times through the book, are actually part of another resource titled, "Nelson's Bible Map Collection" which is available at https://www.logos.com/product/1205/nelsons-bible-map-collection.  The product page for the dictionary indicates that the maps are a separate purchaseable resource.

As for the other omissions, I also have this resource electronically with another subscription service and it is also missing much of the same content you mention above.  It does however have the missing maps included as part of the dictionary itself.

Kenute mentioned charts in the third line of his list. I think many, if not all, of the charts are included in nelsons-complete-book-of-bible-maps-and-charts-revised.

These resources were originally made available in collections from Thomas Nelson at a time when trimming redundancies to fit limited storage capacity held greater urgency.

Thank you Kyle G. Anderson for your explanation of why these things were left out, as this was produced back in 2001. I do understand, and am very happy to hear that you are going back and updating resources such as this one.

Super.Tramp, when I stated that FAITHLIFE should fix this situation ASAP, I did not mean that I wanted them to drop everything else and address this issue. That would be quite ridiculous.

Wayne Clarke & JAL, as for the maps - I already have "Nelson's Complete Book of Bible Maps and Charts," but thank you anyway.

The whole point for me and also for every book, dictionary, and commentary, etc. , is that the Digital Copy should be the same in every way as the HARDBACK COPY, which I do own.

I think the manner in which you typed the OP was easy to draw such conclusion. FYI.

    Kenute -

Thank you for taking the time to report this and ALL of the discrepancies in other resources you have noted. I have no doubt that your effort is contributing to improve the quality of resources you examine.

In some of the specific cases I hope the resources are amended to include missing matter. In others I will be satisfied if the difference between digital and print copies is clearly stated. In all cases I believe some attention is needed.

I am thankful that Faithlife seems to be responding to the need.

While you're getting Nelson to fix stuff, Nelson's New Christian Dictionary can't get its Pelagiuses straight, and this gentleman does not look happy about it.
