Interesting Words and Handout
Anyone know the secret to getting an interesting words word cloud into the handout? I can right click and copy it, and it pastes into a word document just fine, but when I add a blank item to the handout, I can't paste it into it.

Maybe not the least popular... But handouts have long been one of the most problematic (remembering Tom's early posts pleading for more control of them during beta), & the wordle being one of the least understood.... (though MJ's posts on wordle are helping at least me).
I bet that if you figured it out, many more than you would confirm their interest.

Well, I am taking the brute force approach. I am pasting the wordle in to wordpad, printing it off and cutting it out. then I added two blank sections to the handout and I am pasting the wordle over that space and running the whole thing through a color copier.
Inelegant, but effective.

Well, perhaps, but for good reason. Wordles and Word Clouds are a type of visualization that are quite new. If you've not been "taught" to read them, they seem very foreign. But for the younger crowd who have long exposure to such sorts of visualization, they can be effect. And the handouts can be ideal for use with youth - the maximum number of pages make them youth friendly. So I think it is a natural pairing.
[Wordles and word clouds are similar to contemporary "classical" music or art - if you don't know what to look for in order to appreciate it, you'll not like it. With visual art, I've read that you actually activate a different part of your brain.]

Terry, as far as the "Handout" is concerned -- unless Logos now decides to throw a lot of re-development money at it and then "super promotes" the resulting changes, they have "burnt" their bridges with this idea. Perhaps someone was trying to get around modernizing "Lesson Builder' - if so, I'm afraid that it did not work.

I agree with you M.J., I think they both have tremendous potential, and I plan on using the word clouds quite a bit in my handouts. As for the handouts, I am eschewing the use of "quarterlies" or bible study guides in an effort to get people to think for themselves, but there is a very good case to be made for the benefit of having people walk away with something in their hands that serves as a reminder of the lesson.
BTW, I can't stand contemporary classical music [;)]

Well, I must admit that I gave up today trying to make Handouts work for me and used Word instead. But I would hate to think that Logos would let the potential of handouts go unrealized. We will just have to wait and see.

Terry, I totally agree. I am a new user to Logos (any version) and after I bought v4, one of the first features I tinkered with is Handouts. After a couple of hours frustrated and scratching my head trying to get what I want, I finally went to the Forum and found out that there are many limitations to this feature.
I think Handouts would be greatly improved if Logos made at least one of these improvements: allow us to resize images in order to make better use of white space, or give us unlimited pages (right now you only get 4, and that is in booklet format, the best I can tell). Both would be even better.
Now, if Logos says their intent is not to reinvent MS Publisher, then fine, but in that case they need to yank Handouts from the software, because all it is is a stumbling block for the new user.
Like you, I'll just copy images over to Word until it get improved. As it stands, Handouts was just a frustrating puzzle to me.

We'll be revisiting Handouts in the future based on your feedback. We can make a few changes (like getting the word clouds in), but for the most part we've reached the limits of the underlying technology. We're going to have to approach it in a different way, which will take more time, and follow the higher-priority "missing features" we've promised.

Getting Word Clouds in would be great, as for the rest, I will wait. The feature has great possibilities.
