Visual Filters jumbled

Hi everyone,

After upgrading to the Logos 6 engine (still in the stone age, using Logos 4) AND to El Capitan OS (did it at the same time) my visual filters were jumbled in my english resources. Eg. I have a visual filter which indicates if a 2nd person pronoun in my NASB95 is a singular or plural in the Greek. Used to work fine. Now looks like this:

Any ideas as to why this may be happening and how to fix it?

My guess is that this is an index problem

What happens if you type the command "reindex nasb" into the command box and select the option to reindex that resource?

Thanks, Graham! The visual filters seem messed up in all of my resources. The NASB was just an example. Is there a command for re-indexing all of them? Thanks again. :-)

That would be "rebuild index", but it may take a couple of hours to run through.

Hello again, Graham.

I rebuilt the index and I am still encountering the same problem. Any other thoughts? I also tried to delete the existing visual filters and enter new ones, but to no avail.

Please post a screenshot of your filter. I don't doubt it is valid but it would be useful to compare with the one I have just created which works fine

Except it is for first and second person, rather than second person, singular and plural

Thanks Graham. My visual filters were formatted differently - perhaps incorrectly? Regardless, they used to work. I am wondering now if this corresponded with upgrading to the L6 engine. Here is a pic of one of my simple filters that used to work. Thanks again.

when I replicate your VF it works perfectly:

What your first screenshot showed is typical for an indexing issue - I wonder if the reindex worked properly on your machine. You might not have some recent logs in the 'Logos Log Files' subfolder of Documents?

Also just noticed that after restarting logos, i don't have the option of selecting any VFs in any of my Biblical resources anymore. Would that be an indicator of anything?

Sounds strange - do you mean they aren't there or that you can't select them?

And does the same apply to Notes?

Can you post a screenshot of what you see in the Visual Filter dropdown?

There was a fix in 6.6 SR2 to stop irrelevant Visual Filters showing in this dropdown - https://wiki.logos.com/Logos_6.6_SR-2

This suggests that the software doesn't recognise that any filters have been defined that are relevant to NASB. Do you get the same for other Bible resources?

Do you get the same for other non-Bible resources for which you have created a visual filter?

This does sound very much like an index problem - but I know you rebuilt it from a post above.

Can you create a non-Biblical VF in a resource (just do a Basis search on one and highlight the result) and see if it appears in the dropdown for that resource?

Trying to understand whether this just affects Bibles or is wider?

I think there are TWO possible causes for this: (1) An index problem, or (2) the RI being a different version to the resource. I'm not going to be near desktop Logos for a while, but perhaps someone could help the OP check the versions of surface text and RIs.

Good suggestion - but would be strange if it affects all Bibles

Also, one detail I may have forgotten to mention was that it technically wasn't ALL Bibles which were affected initially. I had some filters for 'All biblical resources', and noticed that it was working fine in my NA27. This was when the other resources were jumbled since now no VFs appear in any Biblical resource. Thanks again for any extra thoughts.

Your RI resources are from June in 2014 whereas the translation itself (and all my resources) are from the October

I would "hide" the NASB and then restore it - using the steps outlined at https://wiki.logos.com/Hiding_Books - which should download a new version.

See if that fixes things.

Ok, attempting this now. Thanks so much for the time. I will let you know the results after I am reindexed. Also Graham, I attempted to create a basic search VF for non biblical resources and non of my resources let me see a visual filter in the menu.

Does sound more and more like an indexing issue - but the NASB one, specifically, may be a resource update issue.

So may be two different things combining here!

Someone reported something very similar at https://community.logos.com/forums/t/114654.aspx but a reindex fixed it.

Did you do a reindex as above? If so do you have an indexer log which you could post?

I updated NASB according to the process above. It worked and I have the updated version now. However, still no VF in any resource.

So all three files are dated 21 Oct 2014?

While trying to setup the logging system that Graham mentioned I restarted Logos, and - wouldn't you know it - all of the filters were working properly. No idea how this happened, but I'm sure it related to something y'all helped me with. Thanks again everyone!
