Wow, it has been looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong in coming, but at last it is here: we can now enter custom references for searches on the fly without these being saved and having to be deleted later if we don't want too long a list to build up. We can save it if we want to retain or otherwise just "enter" to use it without saving it.
