Two groups of items on the Cited By panel menu (Expanded view/Compact view, Sort results by search rank/Sort results by book) behave like radio buttons (where only one can be selected at a time) but have checkmarks next to them (implying simple mutually independent on-off switches). This causes confusion and a possible anomalous setting where neither option is selected.

If "Expanded view" has a checkmark and you click on "Compact view" it turns off the checkmark next to Expanded view and selects "Compact view" (and vice versa). Similarly with the Sort results group.
But if you click again on an item that already has a checkmark, it turns the checkmark off and nothing appears to be selected. So what will the view be? What will the sort order be? It appears that when you turn off the check mark on the menu item, that option still remains selected, because the display doesn't change.
This is not how items with checkmarks next to them should behave. Instead of being implemented as check items, they should be implemented as radio options (like the Follow/A/B/C/D/E/F/None options on that same menu) where only one of the items in each group can be highlighted at a time, but you can never get into a state where none of them is highlighted).
[Note: This is happening in 4.0b Beta 10, though I'm guessing it's still in Beta 11 since this would have been a UI change if it were fixed, and it would have been announced. I haven't upgraded to Beta 11 yet due to some lingering concerns that people have been reporting crashes with index merging.'
