I'm just curious as to why I would want to subscribe to Logos Now... or is it really intended for someone who doesn't have Logos at all?
Thanks!
Let me try and explain why I have decided "not yet. "
Logos Now is designed for impatient existing users, who want to fund the components of L7 now (caveat: some data sets may not make it into L7, but until we see how this plays out in this first release cycle, the implication seems to be that a lot will be). None of the features are must-have for me, although some are pretty cool (mainly systematic theologies section and new testament use of the old).
You also get a loaner book every month. If you have gold, this is probably no added value, since I bet you have a hundred books in your library you would really like to read already.
Your also get access to the Web app beta. Right now, that is almost a bad prank on people who thought they could use Logos online. Maybe it will improve, but it isn't worth paying for now.
Oh I see... okay then, that makes sense to me as well... as for "a hundred books" I want to read... it's more along the lines of 5000 books, so I'm good to GO! [8-|]
Thanks for that! The reason I was asking is because in today's 30-day bible study episode they showed them searching a reference to the hearer (in this case, Satan) and being able to research that, but of course in L6G I only show speaker references, since "hearer" refs are in Logos Now.
That having been said I was still able to find the information I was looking for by doing an inline search in Logos 6, so no harm no foul.
The new tagging does look nice, but "hearer" is the kind of thing I expect to see in L7. If I didn't know LN existed, I would be perfectly content with my existing software and waiting to buy these features. So I choose to be content anyway.
I took Logos now to get the Old Testament propositional outlines feature.
https://www.logos.com/features#LogosNow has a list of some of the features made available in Logos Now
It would be worth having a look at these and seeing how useful they would be to you.
I find the Concordance Tool helpful, the "Corresponding Notes and Highlights" provides something people have been asking for for a long time, and I am enjoying creating Visual Filters based on Greek Constructions.
A lot of different features and not all of them are listed in the link I provided - but they add value to me when studying.
is it really intended for someone who doesn't have Logos at all?
Logos Now is intended for Logos 6 owners. Logos Now builds on top of Logos 6. It doesn't include anything you get with Logos 6 (or earlier). So you really need Logos 6 Gold or higher (or Feature Crossgrade) to not have any gaps.
I'm just curious as to why I would want to subscribe to Logos Now.
I can't say exactly why you would want to subscribe, but I can point you toward some reasons why many people would.
If you haven't already, check out the following:
Remember that we have a free trial. You can check it out for yourself for a month and then decide if it's right for you.
I am curious as to how the "Concordance" feature differs from a routine "Basic Search" or "Bible Search"?
The concordance isn't a search. It is simply a list of words and their occurrences within a resource.
You typically use search to find something specific you're looking for (e.g., "faith alone" in Luther's commentary on Galatians).
You'd use Concordance to discover things you might not be aware of (e.g., words that Luther uses most in his commentary on Galatians). Search couldn't answer that question for you, at least not easily. You'd have to run thousands of search and then sort them by count to arrive at what Concordance gives you in a single report.
Concordance is a tool for browsing. The available facets are exposed to you to guide you down a path of narrowing and refining.
I use my Credits for Logos Now and it's just 8,something € a Month soo for that I get all this great Features like the New Testament Manuscript Explorer witch I real need in my Textual Study.
I have a different spin on it. I have been using Logos Now since it started. But all current training assumes you have Logos Now because some of the topics come from Logos Now. It's true there is a book of the month and sometimes I will read one of those during that month and at other times I will buy the purchase outright and read it later and at other times I do not care what the book of the month is. Since it's beginning, Logos Now has been an add on to current base packages. It enhances the base package. I can never understand why someone would not try it for 30 days because it's free. It never hurts to try something and see how it works out for you before you pay the subscription cost.
Carmen, I suspect you will upgrade to Logos 7 when it is released. Logos NOW is like getting Logos 7 ahead of time and a little bit at a time. (Now for the caveat: Logos 7 may not include all of Logos NOW content. There is no guarantee of that.) Of course whether this is worth the fee is another question only each user can answer. I like the idea of getting to use new features and not being overwhelmed with a ton of them with a new release. I think the annual pricing is reasonable for this.
I finally started the free trial. There are a couple really nice features. Systematic Theologies and the Confessional Documents have stood out for me. Not sure I will continue with a paid subscription for what I've found so far.
