Right DAL - you know ultimately Logos BS  is the best Bible Software for searching, . . . . .

    DAL & others,

there seems to be a trend recently to highlight competitor's sales in the forum. We all know that Bob is cool with mentioning other bible software, discussing how to achieve with Logos what another software has implemented quite differently or even comparing features etc. But to me, this trend somewhat goes beyond the idea of a Logos user forum - and I find it a bad taste. That's obviously subjective.

However, Faithlife asks us not to link to competitors websites (furthering google ranks of those guys with the eminence of the Logos user forum, and carrying business over there  directly from the place Faithlife pays for) and thus you may consider editing your post accordingly.

    Thanks.

I think discussing resource pricing and making comparisons to alternative sources is appropriate but that often the propriety of linking directly out to another retail space is dubious.

You know what NB Mick, I'm just glad you brought this up because I was sort of thinking the same thing. But, you want to know what I think? I think the MVP's should agree better on certain things. When I commented on someone advertising the NICOT/NT sale on Accordance and that someone provided a link to the sale, I was told by an MVP that I was "policing." That particular MVP said Dan P. was ok with mentioning a competitor, but not posting the link to a sale, yet that MVP never bothered to read the thread correctly to figure out that I wasn't really "policing" and that there was an actual link provided to the Accordance NICOT/NT sale and that that MVP never really said anything to the guy that actually posted the link, but instead, you could say, sort of went after me. In fact, other MVP's joined the conversation on the Accordance sale and had no problem with a link being posted to the competitor's sale or else they would have mentioned it, wouldn't have they? Here, read the recent thread So you can know what I'm talking about. I'm beginning to believe what others have said in the past, mainly that sometimes some MVP's think they are above other average (like myself) forum users, when in reality having that little cute star under your profile pic doesn't really put you above others. I'm not saying all MVP's, but some definitely come across that way. Now as an MVP that you are, I would appreciate it if you read the thread I'm referring to and see for yourself the inconsistency among MVP's and how it seems that you all need to communicate better among yourselves and communicate your decisions to us, the average forum users. Who knows, you might be able to straighten your other fellow MVP's out so all of you can be on the same page ;) Here's the link (and make sure you read it, because I hope there will be a good, sober response :) (if you and the MVP association don't mind) Thanks!...: https://community.logos.com/forums/t/122844.aspx

    Blessings,

Not necessarily. I do have a problem posting links to competitors's sales but I did not post any reprimand.

Then why the inconsistency? Why do it sometimes and not others? I purposely began this for that reason, to see if MVP's are in sync and consistent, but I guess none are. If they're in the mood to pick an argument, then they'll say something or if they don't like a particular someone, then they'll be quick to read too much into a post and censure that person when there isn't a need to do so. But anyway, point proven - I will see if the thread still allows me to remove the link, if not, then my apologies, I'll try not to post links to the competition's sales in the future :) Question: are MVP's the only ones authorized to reprimand? It kind of comes across that way hehehe

Not all MVPs are on the forums 24 hours a day. MVPs are not always in lockstep agreement. But I bet the consensus on this topic is "Don't post sale links of competitors."

Read the forum guidelines - they ask that all participants help remind the forums members of the guidelines when they are being violated. I cannot speak for other MVP's but I don't read announcements of sales or requests for price changes unless the thread grows long, implying that it has slid off the original topic. Why? Very simply because I can not help users when it comes to prices.  I spend enough time on those that I can do something about that I don't waste time on what I presume I can't help.

But I bet the consensus on this topic is "Don't post sale links of competitors."

[Y] I'd even go further ... don't waste my time by posting competitors' sales.

    • Please do not use our forums to
      • sell or give away anything or link to anything you’re selling or giving away—including Logos products
      • promote or link to competitors
      • point people to other places that sell Logos-compatible products
      • advertise yourself, your business, your ministry, your website, etc. (a tasteful link in your forum signature is acceptable)
      • post Logos Coupon Codes. If you are aware of a special promotion Logos is running online, you are welcome to link directly to the promotion.

Because there are some forum user who feel no obligation to follow the host's request, cultural norms or Christian behavior ... causing a reference to guidelines to be a waste of everyones' time.
