Books by F E Marsh
Hi folks
Wondering if anyone has Marsh's books or is thinking of making PBB's if that is possible. I do know that the Lightbydesign website produced a CD with all of his books available for a small some of money. Unfortunately the site is not working as I believe the owner is in poor health. Has anyone ever purchased this CD or know anyone who did. I would really like to work on Marsh's books for PBB's. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is available in E-Sword format:
You can use this tool to convert the file to RTF:
http://www.biblesupport.com/e-sword-downloads/file/5571-database2rtf-convert-theword-to-rtf/
I am actually working on a macro to help with converting the resulting RTF into a Logos Personal Book docx. I hope to post it here in the next few weeks.

I have amazing results with Word's "autoformat," but it only goes so far and only works well on some documents. Any macro that helps would be greatly appreciated!

Hi folks
Thanks for the help received and for the suggestions made. Just wondering if anyone by any chance might be familiar with the F E Marsh
LightbyDesign CD I referred to and if there might be the possibility of getting a copy somewhere as the site that used to provide it seems to be
permanently down. I believe the CD contains most if not all of Marsh's works so it would be great if someone could come up with a copy of it!!
Here's hoping and thanks again for a great forum which I would find it impossible now to do without.

Gerald, I have a copy of F. E. Marsh's 1000 Bible Study Outlines in Word format. I used a 1925 edition by Pickering & Inglis to transcript it. I am trying to find out if it is in public domain or if Zondervan or Kregel purchased the rights. Zondervan published it in 1950 and Kregel in 1970. Jim Julian

Since F. E. Marsh died 1919, his works are in the Public Domain (unless in jurisdictions that apply a 99-years or longer post mortem auctoris rule - only Cote d'Ivoire is known for this, and Mexico's 100-years pma rule from 2003 is not applied retroactively according to Wikipedia), and therefore it doesn't matter whether or when someone acquired publishing rights. If the 1925 edition has only Marsh as author, it is free to use and share.
Of course you would not be allowed to share something that carries copyright not only from the author, but later editors (such as if Zondervan or Kregel significantly rewrote, abridged, modernized the book in their editions).

If a public domain work is significantly edited and copyrighted, does the original work remain in public domain?

Yes, of course. Any work that has entered the Public Domain, can never be put under copyright again. If someone then edits the book, adds notes, etc., only his edits are copyrighted.

Unfortunately, this is not always true. In some jurisdictions, legislating longer copyright duration has been made retroactively. Also the more complex case of the US joining the "Uruguay round" of WTO international copyright treaties had the effect of putting works from the PD into copyrighted state in the US.Bernhard said:Any work that has entered the Public Domain, can never be put under copyright again.
Nevertheless, your other sentence is true:
Bernhard said:If someone then edits the book, adds notes, etc., only his edits are copyrighted.
which means that books that are in the PD stay free regardless of anybody republishing the book after the author's death. However, it also means that recent editions of PD works may not be a valid source for PBs someone wants to share - unless the edition was simply a reprint.

I am not sure how to upload a F E Marsh's book 1000 Bible Study Outlines.

I have a .doc of F E Marsh, 1000 New Bible Readings. It was changed to 1000 Bible Study Outlines but I did mine from 1925 Pickering & Inglis edition. I am not sure how to make it available on the community website. Jim

Jim:
It couldn't be easier. There are probably instructions in the documentation somewhere, but it was faster/easier for me to create a little tutorial for you rather than go hunt for the documentation. (I don't usually find it user friendly).I have attached a quick 2 page tutorial to walk you through it. You've done 3/4 of the steps just by posting this message.
Best,
Cal H

I am uploading my script of F E Marsh's book 1000 New Bible Readings. The title was changed later to 1000 Bible Study Outlines. I did the work from the 1925 edition printed by Pickering & Inglis edition. I have found that it was later printed by Zondervan in 1950 and Kregel in 1970 under the newer title. The changes that I made are listed in the information at the beginning of the book. 2235.Marsh, F E - 1000 New Bible Readings.docx

Hi
Thanks for info. Unfortunately the site is not working in that when you place an order and get to Paypal you find there is a problem. Have emailed the owner in the hope it can be fixed.

Many thanks for posting that. I added a three column TOC using Word's TOC function. Not sure I like it formatted that way (it adds 20 pages at the front... or where you put the TOC).
