Read a book aloud
Wow, this was a surprising feature. Are you anticipating the voice getting any smoother? Comma and semicolons are a bit rough. But I applaud this feature!

We're using the default narrator on your Windows installation. It's possible to purchase different (and better) voices from online vendors. (http://www.cepstral.com/demos/, for example -- though I haven't tested this.)

i have a different voice and my audio mode is very funny to listen to. It is obviously getting messed up somewhere, I spelled out Gold. I don't have time to really report this as a bug (attach an audio file) but I will sometime down the road.

I have the same voices. I use Paul. It does not seem to work...I tried it with the NET. Can you give me a book that you know sounds good on your computer so I can seen if it works well on mine? I have Scholars Gold, macarthur, journals.

The defauilt voice on my computer is acceptable, but I chuckled listening to it try to read the Septuagint [:D]

My voice sound like Stephen Hawkins - which amuses me to hear him reading Genesis Chapter 1 and 2[:D]

Odd, mine sounds like a female Stephen Hawins, but I have the same amusement for the same reason. Now If I could just get that Carl Sagan voice...

Phil,
I really like the "highlight the verse number as you read" Read aloud feature in L4. Thank you! However, it will be very nice.
a) if there is an option for us to change the installed voices like what we have in L3 Beta. Like yourself I bought many of the voices from NextUp.com.
b) It will be very nice if we can include a pronunciation editor, as some of the voices behave slightly differently, we might want to correct much like in TextAloud.
c) I noticed in ESV (with RI) as the reading progresses the RI stays in the first verse where we start the reading, can we have the Interlinear moves in tandem?
PS: By the way you might want to know that NeoSpeech Lily (Chinese Voice) reads the Chinese CUV Simplified version very well too.

Phil,
I really liked the sample of neospeech....but I don't know how to use it? Is it a plugin? Standalone?
Can you fill me in on what you do?

Phil,
for Neospeach you have to click sales and fill out a form to convince them you're worthy of buying a voice. I'm not impressed by their methods, and what appears to me a major distrust of users.
However if you go that route I suspect that all you'll have to do is install the voice as they provide a disk or file and then in windows control panel under the sound dialog I think you can change the voice to the new one.

Sorry, that should have been addressed to Robert. (more [c] please)
But for Phil I was wondering, what would be the potential for Logos to license Neospeech Paul to work with Libronix? Or at least to partner with them to provide a quick way to purchase a good voice through the pre-pub program.
Because the truth is, that Microsoft Anna leaves a bit to be desired.

Thomas,
I didn't fill out the form because i didn't want to hassle with it.
I agree...the MS voices are horrid...in fact, the only one that I've ever heard that was any good was the neo speech one.

Well I did fill out the form, (curiosity overcame my dislike). I'll report back when I get an answer.
I definitely liked the "new" Neospeech voice, "Julie"

I just realized that while the Read aloud menu item is available in the main program on books, if you float a book into a new window, it's not available.
Any way we can make it available in floated books too?

Hi Tom,
As far as I can tell, the whole business of main window menus/functions applying to floated windows needs some careful thinking through by Logos. As far as I can tell, it's the same problem with any main menu function. How do you get it to apply to a floated window?
Either the menus need to be replicated in floated windows (this would be my preference), or the main window's functions need to apply. I really like the idea of making each window a full instance of the program, rather than a partial instance, as now.
Regardless, I agree with you that Read Aloud should apply, too.
Grace & Peace,
Bill

as I recall I got the kate and Paul voice when I bought a $40 program and I certainly didn't have to mess with a salesman.

It was this one...http://www.naturalreaders.com/order_information.htm
The program stunk. but the voices work great.

Thanks Philip,
That looks like a good deal. I'll investigate further once the other company calls me. Now that I'm on the list...

Got my email from Neospeech for a free trial... of course no mention of price (do these people want my business?)
After another email: the personal license of the Neospeech voice "Julie" is $69. There, that's an answer finally settled.

you might as well buy the other program I mentioned. It was $49 and came with two voices I think!

I was listening to the voice samples Philip. Head to the Neospeech site and type in some things for "Julie" to say. "she" sounds much better to my ears.

I thought Neospeech had it down; very life like but not for 70 dollars.

Yes I've installed the Neospeech trial of Julie, but I can't figure out how to make the voice work in L4's box. If I load MS narrator and attempt to change the voice, Julie isn't there.
