Logos 6 began crashing on startup yesterday out of the blue. No updates have been made to the system prior to or since encountering this issue. I've also noticed the icons on the desktop and taskbar are now blank whereas they used to have the Verbum logo showing.

You might try upgrading to Logos 6.10 SR-2 (6.10.0.0041) via the installer in the link here:

Why wouldn't that have been auto-applied? Thanks for the suggestion, just curious.

Logos auto updates AFTER startup, so if your installation is crashing during startup, updates can't be downloaded and installed. You will need to manually do so.

My question is - why wouldn't SR2 have come down to me as soon as it became available? My issue began only 2 days ago.

Good question.  Perhaps a FaithLife expert needs to respond, but I could speculate a couple of reasons.

    - Make sure automatic updates are enabled [Tools -> Program Settings -> Internet -> Automatically Download Updates]

    - If that setting was already in place, maybe there was some internet service interruption or other factor that caused corruption in the download causing the errors you are experiencing now.

It may be hard to diagnose root cause.  If you are still experiencing this issue, is it possible to download the current install package and start anew?

I'm not sure what you are asking, but SR2 has only been available for about 48 hours. Your troubles began sometime around then (you said "yesterday out of the blue"). Presumably your issue began before the fix was available.

By the way (you never said): has your issue been resolved by installing sr2?

Oh, ok. I thought SR2 had been available for a while. I didn't try to apply it yet. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help!

Thanks, I'll try to manually apply SR2 and see what happens.

Ok. I applied SR2 and it worked! Thank you!

One thing that changed is that the icon placed on my desktop says "Logos Bible Sowtware" not "Verbum". So I'm a little confused about that. I thought all the terminology going forward would use Verbum. Then, I saw that there's a separate Logos website. So, are there two separate products and if so, what's the difference?

Verbum is essentially the "Catholic" version of Logos. It sounds like the Logos engine was installed instead of the Verbum one... There isn't <much> difference between the two, but there are some. A user like MJ would have to provide more details.

Thanks for your help on this! Maybe I'll post a question regarding getting the Verbum engine since that's what I purchased.

If you type "set Verbum to Yes" in the Command box you can get Logos to perform as if it were Verbum.

For the most part, setting Verbum to yes just changes default options to create an out of the box experience that's optimal for Catholic users rather than the Evangelical Protestants that the default Logos set up is mostly tuned for. For example, setting Verbum to yes:

    • Changes default prioritization of resources to Verbum defaults (i.e. makes Catholic Bibles, commentaries, lectionary top priority, if you haven't set your own priorities)
    • Adds automatically generated Catechism, Church Documents, Church Fathers collections to search options, etc.
    • Changes default guide templates to Verbum defaults (e.g. adds Liturgy section to Passage Guide removes Protestant-oriented online content)
    • Changes the "Common Divisions" in Bible search to reflect the Catholic canon

You can set up Logos to do most of these things yourself (or at least emulate them) with Verbum set to no.

Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

In terms of applying the SR2 update, is there a separate one for Verbum? If so, is there a way I can apply it (given that I have already pulled down the one for Logos)???
