Right Click Context Menus

To return to my favourite bugbear:

I find many of the context menus either confusing, frustrating, or too limited.

In a Greek text if I right click on a word I am presented with:

Open Philippians 1:3; Open Philippians 1:3 in a new tab...  The function of this is not clear - is it going to open a bible, the most preferred resource? If I have commentaries more highly ranked than bibles, what does it open? The two functions both appear to open in a new tab... what's the difference.

Why is copy not at the top of the list (as with other tabs)?

It takes ten seconds for the list of preferred resources to display (I know my machine is old)  but this is worse than "average" performance. Why can't we simply have our top five preferred resources listed? Why only five? I prefer the way v3.0 operated in this respect.

The real problem is if I select a verse which falls in the middle of commentary sections.

Here, the list takes 46 secs. to complete and is missing Harper's and Oxford Commentaries. But, if I simply open these commentaries and type Phillipians 1:4 into the navigation box, I am taken straight to the appropriate section.

The issue is compounded with Greek words:

What does it mean to "Open" a Greek word????

Nice job on the perseus lookup. Functions perfectly

The process churns away over and over trying to come up with a reference to this word.... How helpful is that?

If I click on the Lemma tab:

Copy now has its own section - should be at the top, imho. Power lookup and perseus lookup are in different places.

Once again time wasted with searching through my lexicons. Can't I just send this lemma to the dictionaries. If it's there, it will open up. If not too bad.

Plus, these bottom bits of each lookup need the possibility of selecting "Open all in new tabs" or somesuch.

These same problems arise with "English" and "Latin" words.

I have expressed elsewhere on the inability to select an expression, rather than a single word, and send it to one's preferred Bible Dictionaries.

The problem of the tagging for these resources is no doubt being addressed: If I select Pharisees, it cannot be found in the Harper's Bible Dictionary because the article there is tagged "Pharisee" (even though it reads in the plural). If I select Pharisee, the anchor bible dictionary does not show up.

Right Clicking in the library needs a great deal more functionality - and this may well be coming.

The only field which appears to have extra functionality is the rating field:

    image

Here, we need also the ability to change the rating or to rate an item. I may want to provisionally rate all NICOT/NICNT volumes at 4 stars. Currently, I have to modify every item in the information pane. That's a lot of work.

There ought be the ability to add tags and to add abbreviated titles from the main library window.

At the very least. Right-click should bring up the option to open the information window.

    On a pane:

In the space between the tab and the (imho terribly placed close open resource) X, right clicking should bring up a context menu which allows for the closing of the pane and for the opening of a new tab.

If the pane is opened in a new window, it should allow for the closing of the pane or the reintegration of the pane into the main program.

BTW. I love the locator bar.... I just wish that we could move to the next article with arrows from here.

You can multi-select by using Shift+Click or Ctrl+Click (much the same as Windows Explorer), or press Ctrl+A to select all. Once you have selected multiple items in My Library, the Info Pane displays options for changing them all at once; here is an example of rating all books in a series:

It will open your Preferred bible (New Jerusalem) at the top of the resource list which shows the top 5 bible data type** resources you have Prioritized in Library. As you prioritized only two English bibles before your first commentary they are mixed in the list of 5. The lesson of the new age data type is to Prioritize at least 5 bibles before your (bible) commentaries unless you want to have them in the context menu and then you pay a performance penalty (it is obviously looking for an exact match on the reference).

If your preferred bible is already open then a second tab will be created if you select Open Philippians 1:3 in a new tab.

What does it mean to "Open" a Greek word????

"Open" is the new age word for Execute Keylink!

Not sure about time wasted, but the new age "Open" will send the lemma to your preferred lexicon or you can click a lexicon in the list.

** being encouraged to Prioritize "your favourite English, Greek and Hebrew resources" in a single list produces this confusion because nothing is said about prioritizing English resources between bibles and commentaries, which belong to the same data type, and between other English resources like dictionaries. Greek-English dictionaries probably get lumped in with Greek or Hebrew resources!

    Bradley,

    Thanks for that.

I've had more miss that hit with muti-selecting items that I hadn't tried that! The books seem to want to open and be read even if that is not my intention.

When holding down shift, I have to remember not to click on the title of the book or it opens it. This, of course, is not the same behaviour as windows explorer. It would be good if it didn't open titles at all when shift or ctrl was held.

    Dave,

    Thanks for your response.

Because of the way that I use the program, I actually want ready access to a number of bibles and commentaries from bible references. I like to very quickly send a verse or pericope to the Oxford Bible Commentary or to Harpers to read a basic overview of the text.

I don't like the performance penalty for searching for exact references. Plus, this is faulty. The reference is there... Logos 3.0 can find it. Opening the book myself and typing the reference into the navigation box finds it. I would just like the list of my preferred bible data type references automatically there... The program seems to be trying to be too smart and missing the boat.

I did sort of work that out :) But, it's not at all clear. How do you "Open" a word or a lemma?

At least when confronted by the word keylink, it forces us to ask what that is and maybe search in the help for an answer.
