Store songs in a database?

I'm not exactly sure how to ask this question, so I apologize for not formulating it properly.

In Media Shout once a song is imported from Song Select, it can be edited and formatted for that churches particular use (for instance, if I wanted to delete verse two or modify the course). Once it is, it can then be saved into the song database so that it can be reused in that particular format over and over again.

Is this the same case with Proclaim? Or does the song have to be edited over and over again each time it's imported from Song Select?

Our video tech asked this question and I wasn't sure as to the answer. I'm pushing hard for us to move to Proclaim, but I don't want him to have to reformat the same songs over and over again each time they're used.

Any wisdom would be appreciated!

Yes, that's exactly what happens in Proclaim. Songs are saved to your church's database automatically.

When you attempt to add a song that you've previously added, it appears in the list under the heading "My Songs". Just choose it from there to get your own church's version of the hymn.

Thanks Mark. Will it keep the formatting that is created too, such as verse order, indenting, italicizing, etc. Or does it just keep the song in the original song select import format?

Using the method I've described will give you an exact duplicate of all the text fields (so that's text, verse order, indents, copyright, etc.). It won't retain formatting, but will use the formatting defaults of the new presentation.

But using a slightly different method, you can also add add an exact duplicate of an entire item from a previous presentation, which will include formatting, background image, etc. So you have the choice - existing song into a new format, or an exact copy of the previous song.

However, just so you know, in a song slide in Proclaim you can only apply formatting to the entire song. You can't (for example) have the verse in roman type and the chorus in italics. That restriction doesn't apply to "content" slides, just "song" slides.

Here's what I mean.

Say I import Just as I Am, but flip verse 2 and 3. The next time I access that song from the database, will it still be in that order, or in the order that SongSelect used when it was originally imported?

If you chose it from the "My Songs" section, then the two verses will be flipped.

When you use Reuse Items everything comes in as it was previously used.

When you create a new song service item and add from the "My Songs" area all text boxes are populated from the Proclaim user song database, this includes any custom lyrics as well as the Custom Verse Order.

I know this is a crazy question, so don't laugh to loud, but a guy can dream,right...

Is there a process (such as some type of script or add in) that will convert song databases from other formats, like Media Shout? We have 1000s of songs in Media Shout, but are looking to make the move to Proclaim.
