Is it safe to merge indexes yet?

Calvin 500 has tipped me over the edge. Is it safe to attempt, or should I wait?

I just asked that about 2 days ago Mark, and Bradley said there are still some things in 4.0b beta with merge to be fixed yet.

I do a reindex when I get something big in, for now, and let it run overnight.
