Hello Mark, sorry for the delay in reply here. This is technically "by design" though it is a common point of confusion.
Proclaim Smart Media backgrounds are unique in that they include text fields with position, styling, etc. When you select a new background you are selecting new text fields as well. In your example the blue background does not include the lemma fields, therefore they are not rendered. The text field values are still associated with the service item, switching back to the original background would restore the values on the slide. However, in the Send to Proclaim case switching back to the original background is not really possible, since it came from Logos and is not available directly in Proclaim's Media Browser.
A workaround is to make a customization to one of the text fields (e.g. increase font size 1 pt) prior to changing the background. When text fields are customized they are preserved across a background change. I wonder if we should use this same behavior if the text fields contain text values… I’ll bring this up internally and see if we can come up with a better story for this.
Thanks for the feedback.

That would make a lot more sense. If there's text in those fields, they're 'customised' from my perspective!
I'm raising this because it's still an issue that makes little sense to me with this type of slide. Perhaps Logos could 'customise' the slide when it sends it across to make it possible to change the background?
