bringing in songs with 20% gray background

We would like to have the worship team in the background with the words on top. I have set it up so that works fine, but we would like to either have the team less visible (faded out a bit), or the words have a 20% gray background so the team kind of is faded out. Hopefully this makes sense.
Can either of these be done?

If you use a gray background behind the text and use a chroma key to remove the black background, the you can get the gray to become semi transparent. We do this at my church and it works well. Let me know if I need to be more clear. And I can grab some screenshots.

Great! I have a gray background that I created in photoshop (.png). It looks transparent in proclaim in edit mode, but when I put it live, it is a solid background with no transparency.
I have the output transparency color set to black. (tried blue and green and no difference in what the 'live' shows)
What am I missing or what do I have set up wrong?

Clarification:
(tried blue and green and no difference in what the 'live' shows): No changes in regards to transparency. The background changes to green or blue, but not transparent.
I am working on this from home with 2 screens and wirecast. Is it possible that it would work at church?
Thanks!

1. How are you keying out the black, green, or blue? Software or a hardware switcher at church?
2. My solution was to use a fully opaque gray background. Since gray is 'partially' black, a chroma key can key out part of the gray. Leaving a transparent black color in its place. So this would requires messing with the key itself.
So this requires messing with the key itself.
I'll be away from my keyboard for sometime today, but I will try to reply as I see them come in.

Just pushing the 'black' or 'blue' choice under settings in proclaim to take out the background. One slide is just transparent background and that was working to overlay earlier in the week. How do you keying out the black, green, or blue?
I had it working this week with the slide being transparent, and then tried the 20% gray. Now it just pushes a black or blue (whatever is chosen) It is not overlaying (transparent) at all. Not sure what I changed... : (
Thanks for your help!

So I downloaded Wirecast to try it out and they don't support a Luma key.. So you won't be able to achieve semi-transparent object very easily.
Wirecast only supports Chroma keys which mean you need to use the blue or green output in Proclaim.
Here are some screenshots of what Proclaim looks like for me, and what wirecast looks like.
Proclaim:
Key in Wirecast:
Wirecast settings for key:
So since you can't use a Luma key, perhaps you could use some lower thirds media? Proclaim's Media Browser has some media you can use if you search for 'lower thirds' and are a Pro Media subscriber. That would end up like this in Wirecast:
I hope this all helps you.

Thank you soooo much!! What a blessing! We will just go with the overlay of the words, and no gray. Thank you again!
