Grant Osborne verse-by-verse commentary series
I am interested to learn more about the new Grant Osborne commentaries now on pre-pub. They are described as verse-by-verse. Osborne, however, is an expert in the area of hermeneutics and thus knows context is crucial, few verses can be taken by themselves and still be fully exegeted and expounded. So it sounds like a contradiction to good commentary to say it's verse-by-verse.
So assuming this is not fragment by fragment Lego piece approach to commentary, what is the meaning of verse-by-verse here?

I think it's an indicator of completeness of treatment and exhaustiveness of coverage. I think all major commentaries that treat a book of the bible in a thorough manner (i.e. in the length of a book) are called verse-by-verse. The idea conveys that every verse is treated, whereas smaller commentaries may only write a small piece of text per chapter, often omitting dealing with relevant details.

'Verse by verse' refers to it hewing very closely to the text and covering every verse. It's very much a commentary with a broad view to context and structure. I've been able to read a fair bit of what's been submitted and it's very good. Osborne really brings the fruit of a lifetime of study to bear on the scriptures, but he does it in a way that non-specialists will be able to appreciate and understand.
