New Feature: Courses Tool

The Courses Tool is designed to be a planning tool for structuring your study of certain books or topics. Like reading plans, learning plans help you systematically work through content. Select from one of our pre-built learning plans an area you'd like to learn more about and the pace you'd like to go through the content. The Courses Tool generates a learning schedule, allows you to read the selections within the tool itself, and then tracks your progress.

Fully updated and indexed but none of my courses are showing in the Courses tool:

lost my bookmarks, kind of. I had several bookmarks that pointed to courses that I was in process. Now they don't open. if I browse to them, it has lost "tracking" what I have completed. when I open a course in Courses that I have completed, it does not show that, and makes me start again. If I open a completed course from the library, it does go to the "last" location (end/final exam), but has no tracking of the sections being completed.

I believe courses are only updated when you first launch the app. It might be that you need to restart the application one more time for them to show up.

It doesn't seem like the decision has been made but if there is sufficient interest I personally think they will make it available.

Would the session exclude the first 8/7 resources and generate a plan with only the books I have.

The left pane shows the entire table of contents (all of the sections) of the course. It does not exclude segments with resources that you do not own.

Would the session exclude the first 8/7 resources and generate a plan with only the books I have.

As you progress through the course, some of the sessions will be empty because you don't own the content.

What I am seeing is that if I don't own the mobile ed courses that are displayed I can still read the text and the links to the additional resources still work - I just can't watch the video. The video is transcribed into the course though :-)

No course seems to list its requirements on the course page of the website.

As far as I can tell, you would need to follow the appropriate faithlife group, download the excel file of readings, and then manually check them against your library.

It's probably quicker to download the notes/highlighting file and open that in Logos, as it will be easier to see what you don't have.

Hi,

Damian's links will show you all the Mobile Ed Courses we have available for purchase.

If you are looking for a list of all of the Learning Plans that we developed for the Courses tool (including the ones made for Mobile Ed), there is no such list available. The only plans that are not showing up in your Courses Tool are plans that are highly dependent on a resource that you do not own. For instance, we made a plan on Lewis' Mere Christianity. That plan won't show up unless you own Mere Christianity.

We do plan on releasing most, if not all, plans when we are able to give you the ability to filter out plans that include content you don't own. We decided to restrict the ones that were dependent on one resource if you don't own it because we didn't want people to open plan after plan only to find that they were missing all the content necessary for completing the plan.

So, in the near future, you'll be able to see all the plans we've developed.

It's sadly still possible to have that experience with courses that require multiple resources, but I certainly appreciate the thought!

Glad I found this forum. How would you be able to see those available learning plans? Would they be integrated into the program, perhaps with a lock beside them? Thanks for your responses to the many questions about this helpful tool.

We plan to integrate a way of filtering plans by resources owned. In the faceted browsing to the left of the main tool, you are able to select plans based on topic, theme, session length, etc. Our hope is also to include a section that lets you limit plans by whether you own the resources included in them or not. It will be something like "Plans for which I have all resources," "Plans for which I have some resources," "Plans for which I own no resources."

We built/are building most of the plans using the Logos 7 Gold library. We needed to choose a library so that the greatest amount of people would have access to all the resources. Gold is our most popular library, so we chose it.

I did build some plans using only resources in Starter and we plan to build more.

Question about this tool. In addition to the Mobile Ed courses I'm seeing, I'm seeing a bunch of other "courses" that are listed from different people and a bunch of introductory "courses". What are these and how are they different from the Mobile Ed courses I own?

They are basically reading plans on one or more books, sometimes traditional reading plans and sometimes created by the author.

The best analog is probably reading lists from topics.logos.com. In fact, we've discussed converting some reading lists into learning plans in the Courses tool.

How does one turn Popular Highlights off in the courses tool readings? Almost all of them have that annoying dashed underlying and I don't see an icon that allows me to switch it off like I do on other panels.

AND, if it DOES base itself on your Library, what about resources you've hidden?

If your library contains resources for a course, that course will be shown, otherwise that course will automatically be hidden. The bigger your library, the more available courses you'd be able to see and complete.

I haven't tested it, but I suspect that if a resource is hidden, the course tool wouldn't show that course, as its required resource would be "missing" from your library.

(In the upcoming Logos 7.2 release, you will be able to see all courses, even if you don't have the required resources in your library. This will make it easier for you to obtain resources for courses you'd want to take.)

I have a Bronze level.

I believe most—if not all—courses recommend at least Platinum to get maximum benefit from the course. Note that "required" resources are not really necessary to take most courses. You can still watch the videos and read the lecture transcripts, but you will not be able to complete the recommended collateral readings.

If you have Logos 7, the tool will show you all available plans that you will be able to follow. Lots of the plans require certain resources. If you don't have any of those resources, the plan will be listed as unavailable. At least half of the courses require you to purchase a Mobile Ed course to follow them.

There is an "Introduction to the Gospel of Matthew" that is mostly made of resources that are often found in Logos libraries. That has 37 30-minute sessions. Most Bible books don't yet have courses, though. There looks to be about ten Bible books covered so far.

My son and I upgraded to Logos 7 without even knowing about courses. We had been firing emails back and forth as we both explored the new features. When I stumbled into the Courses Tool, I was really impressed. I immediately sent him an email. The response was a single word: Fantastic!
