Why does the Lectionary Home Page Layout trigger the First Reading?

I've been playing with the home page Lectionary layout and wonder why it triggers the first reading for bibles/commentary/cited by/explorer?

This makes no sense to me.

IMHO, it should trigger the Gospel because, notwithstanding the order they are proclaimed/heard, the first reading is to be read in light of the Gospel. I always start my own reading there and then go back to the other readings.

Possibly because when you open the Lectionary layout, you see the first reading, not the Gospel. There would be a different set of complaints if the layout was showing the first reading and everything else was opening to anything that the the user couldn't see.

I suppose so. Though, I see the first reading and psalm. So, it is clearly a lectionary.

Also, before I see any biblical text, I see a list of lectionary reading citations.

It is certainly easy enough for me to click on the Gospel reading link as a first step, but it still makes no sense to me that every tool is triggered by the first reading and not the Gospel from the beginning.

It is certainly easy enough for me to click on the Gospel reading link as a first step, but it still makes no sense to me that every tool is triggered by the first reading and not the Gospel from the beginning.

Perhaps it might be an idea to have the option of altering the Lectionary Layout so that it works that way. For me, clicking on the Gospel link and then clicking on the passage to cause the tools to load to the passage takes seconds in total, so I'm not bothered.

There is a way to make it trigger the Psalm, 2nd reading, or Gospel. On the homepage sidebar for the Catholic Lectionary, if you select the day you want (click on Today to open a calendar), and then click on the link for the reading you want to start with, it will open up the Lectionary Layout to that reading.

I had been using the date picker until I finally watched a couple of the Verbum 360 videos yesterday. It's probably quicker than typing Sunday and waiting for it to populate anyway. I don't think that I have ever used the Go box before - I hadn't realised how much it had changed over time.

BTW. Have you noticed in those videos how your confrere refers a couple of times to the Oxford Dictionary of the Christian Church as a "bible dictionary"?

I just tried it out. Oddly (to me), although clicking on the Gospel from the homepage sidebar did open the Lectionary Layout with the auxiliary resources focused on the Gospel passage, the lectionary resource itself was not focused on the Gospel--it had opened to the list of passages and first reading, as usual.

Not odd to me as it is set to the date milestone. This is necessary to link up the Missal to the Lectionary.

I have changed the layout so that one of the homily commentaries/guides is linked to the lectionary via the date milestone. I can then parallel resource through selected other homily helps.
