This has been happening to my, too. Almost the same configuration as your computer: HP dv6 running Windows 7 professional. I first noticed this problem after I downloaded my prepub Christian History Magazine.

The index is corrupted and needs to be rebuilt. Try "rebuild index" in the command box. If you get the same problem again, try deleting your LibraryIndex directory.
This problem is fixed in 4.0b.

Thanks. Currently rebuilding index - 63 hours to go!

I have tried to rebuild the index using the command line box. That didn't work. So, I searched for the file you cited "LibraryIndex" and I couldn't find the file on my computer. However, the program itself and all the components seem to be working. Should I redownload the prgram and reinstall it?

The index is in C:\Users\<UserName>\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\<random>\LibraryIndex (Vista/Win7). The reason your search didn't find it is because the AppData folder is hidden. So, you will have to enable viewing of hidden files and folders in the folder options (control panel) to navigate to it. Delete its contents and then start Logos, it will detect the lack of an index and build a new one.

I found the file, delted it, and now Logos 4 will not start at all. I get the error message that "Logos 4 has stopped working."

There are normally multiple files in the library index folder, did you delete them all?
Also, there's a chance that your problem is different from the OP. Our best bet might be to back up collect logs after a crash (http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging ) and then start a new thread and include those logs ( http://wiki.logos.com/Uploading_Logs )

Hi please follow Kevin Becker's post and upload the logs after getting the "Logos 4 has stopped working" error - you may or may not have to reinstall if you decide to follow this link: http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers as these methods will save you time from downloading

As I thought you recommended I deleted the whole folder. Moreover, when that didn't work I restored the directory, did a system restore and that didn't work. Finally, I uninstalled Logos 4 and reinstalled it and it still will not open. What's up?

It shouldn't have made a difference whether you deleted the folder or the files in it, I was just double checking. If reinstalling Logos didn't fix it then perhaps there is a problem with your .NET installation. However, the only way to know for sure is if you submit logs. Otherwise we are just guessing what the problem is.

We need some information:-
- your computer & OS
- logs (see links in previous threads) - http://wiki.logos.com/Diagnostic_Logging and Uploading Logs
- how you reinstalled

No problem. In fact it sounds like Jerry's logs could have exotic errors, I'll welcome any insight you have. [*]

Jerry,
The error in your log files is "Program Unhandled exception: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'C:\Users\Jerry Albright\AppData\Local\Logos4\Data\eo2q44mh.wmc\LicenseManager\Products.db' is denied."
I searched the forum for similar errors. The only other person who had this crop up recently seemed to fix it by reinstalling Logos (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/7874.aspx ) However, you said you already did that...
Do you have administrator access in the "Jerry Albright" account? Try running Logos as an administrator (right click on the shortcut, select properties and that setting is under the compatibility tab).

Kevin,
Thank you for trying to help me. I don’t know if you got my last message, but I did uninstall and reinstall Logos 4. I get as far as the login screen and then I get the error that Logos 4 has stopped working. I do have administrator’s access to this account, but I followed your suggestion and checked the “run as administrator” box. That still did not give me access. I noticed this morning that there isn’t even a director for Logos 4 in my programs since I reinstalled the program and I don’t even find the LibraryIndex folder either when I reveal hidden files.
I have Logos 4 installed on my desktop at home, but I really need this program on my laptop at the church.
I hope we can get this resolved soon.

Ok, I'm thinking it might be best to try reinstalling Logos again. First, you might want to back up your resource folder as described in http://wiki.logos.com/Quick_Installation_onto_multiple_computers to save you on download time (use method 3). Next, uninstall Logos 4 from Programs and Features in the Control Panel. Then, navigate to AppData/Local/Logos4 and delete the Logos4 folder. Run the installer from the web http://downloads.logos.com/LBS4/Installer/Logos4Setup.exe . If you can get into Logos then follow the quick installation directions from the link above. Also, make certain logging is enabled during this process because if this doesn't work I will probably be recommend a call to tech support [:S].

There seems to be an issue with accessing a file in you AppData\Logos4 folder.. A previous user who experienced this was able to get around the problem by creating a new windows user and installing L4 there. I'd recommend first following Kevin's instructions - make sure to save your resources to avoid the download! If that still doesn't work, can you create a new user account?

Alternatively do a custom install to another partition or the root C: folder.
