Logos Now Evaluation

Hello all, I am just curious on what your thoughts are on Logos Now? I have had Logos Now (LN) since May of this year and I find it helpful at times, but I wonder if I am actually using the full capabilities that LN offers. This has made me consider maybe just buying the full feature set and breaking away from LN. How have you all used it? Also, do you plan on just being a LN member or do you prefer to own the data sets in the Full Feature Set? My LN membership expires or auto-renews in May of next year, but I was considering maybe getting the FFS and not renewing LN. Thanks in advance for your advice and help.

This is very true. Which is why I am wrestling with the idea of just continuing to be a LN member and being content with L6 features if I should stop renewing in the future.

The FFS is well priced if you purchase while a Logos Now member and you will only miss out on a couple of Logos Now only features. That way you can be content with Logos 7 features if you decided not to renew in the future - providing of course you find some value in the Logos 7 features.

Very good point. I do find the L7 features helpful, I guess seeing what new features they release for LN will be helpful to make a decision.

As I wrote in another thread, I am committed to buying resources/libraries and renting features (i.e., subscribing to Logos Now) for the foreseeable future because it appears that the cumulative cost of renting features is always going to be less expensive than the cost of purchasing features (i.e., buying the latest Full Feature Set every two years). This is all the more true when you figure in the additional discounts on libraries that you get with Logos Now. I did purchase the feature crossgrade of Logos 6, so if for some reason I couldn't continue my subscription, I'd still have the Logos 6 features. But if I can afford (say) car insurance, I find it hard to imagine being unable to afford $100 a year for Logos Now.

Of course, you may consider it a benefit to own a version of Logos in which all those new features have been beta tested by the LN community. I appreciate LN subscribers doing it AND paying for the privilege

I think this is true in a lot of ways but also there are features that are exclusive to LN.

I've generally been happy with LN knowing full well that I don't come anywhere near using its full capabilities. Just a few of the features like the Bible browser and systematic theology tool make it (almost!) worth the cost for me.

What has kept me satisfied from month to month has been the preview resources as I like(d) the variety of books that came through, usually things I wouldn't buy but were worthwhile reads anyway. Unfortunately, the selection process of that has taken a serious dive in value the last fourth months with FL simply dumping large, unsuitable sets of resources I have no interest in. I'm hoping that will improve in January, otherwise I may have to re-evaluate my enthusiasm for Logos Now.

But imagine your last FFS was L4 .... you could not afford the catch-up for 3 FFS's and they keep accumulating.

Now is your forever ... you won't afford the catch-up.

I will not renew my subscription until Logos 8. Instead of renewing it before L8, I would rather buy FFS for the same money. In that way when L8 will be released, I would renew again because the discount itself pays off LN. I am not concerned to temporally loose 7+ features because I don't even have time to catch up with all upcoming updates. I will catch it up with L8.

Sadly, like I foresaw before and people here on forums were arguing that my statement was not right that those people who do not use LN will be treated as "second class" but everyday I get more convinced that Faithlife is treating them that way. Daily, I see how non LN costumers are becoming more disadvantaged: less and less discounts and just today only, I saw that non LN costumers will have less prepub guarantee price advantage. By the way, what is sales hotline and help hotline that are under LN membership? Lets just be honest, non Logos Now users are second class here and they will be more and more limited and pushed until they give up and get subscription or just give up Logos itself.

Ain't gonna happen. I've simply quit spending money here. I will pick up an occasional resource on sale, but I'm not going to smoke the kool-aid. There was a silly comedy called, "The Money Pit" a couple decades ago. If they do a sequel, it will be about this software.

That is a great point. The bible browser is pretty cool, and the concordance feature too. I also agree about the preview resources, hopefully they get better. I am also interested to see what new features they will put in in the coming weeks for LN, so far it has only been the bible browser and fuzzy bible search? I could be wrong.

Yeah I guess I could buy the FFS, since it is not a bad price. I sort of feel like I am double paying though if I did that and had LN. If that makes any sense.

I do think that is something I think about too. Although I have L6 but if by the time L9 comes around I would revert back three feature sets, plus whatever is in the free core engine. I guess if you start and commit to LN you'd have to stick with it pretty much.

I'm not a LN subscriber, so I can't comment regarding LN benefits. But the major reason I had for purchasing the L7 FFS rather than going with just LN, is that down the road, I hope to pass the software and my library on to someone and when that happens, I'd like to be as current as possible on features I own so the person receiving the software isn't faced with having to either pay an annual subscription or pay a very large up-front cost to purchase the features I'd been renting via LN. If not for that, I might consider just going with LN. But even then, because I'm entering my retirement years, I'm not sure I want to be faced myself with the possibility of not having the money some day for an ongoing subscription cost and possibly lose many features I'd come to find very useful when the features available to me were rolled back to some Logos version from who knows when. But that's just my scenario and the real value of LN is going to vary depending on a person's needs, desires, and concerns.

NOTE: I looked at subscribing to LN when I upgraded from L6 to the L7 FFS and some L7 libraries, because I understood they would be cheaper that way. But the sales people I spoke with kept insisting my savings as a LN subscriber would be so minimal on top of the initial L7 intro pricing, that it wouldn't be worth subscribing to LN just for the additional L7 related discounts. At the time, the new Bible Browser feature was being presented as a part of the L7 FFS and that was one of my primary interests in L7, so I opted not to subscribe to LN. It wasn't until after my initial L7 purchases that it was clarified that the Bible Browser was only available to LN members, otherwise I think I would have opted to subscribe to LN before making my L7 purchases.

LN is not beta testing. LN members who are also beta testers are the ones doing the heavy lifting. Non-Beta LN members simply enjoy the tested features sooner than not LN members.

Zzzzzzz..... not sure I'll renew, since it's double cost (LN + feature upgrade cost) to keep whatever level we have after discontinuing LN. If we got to keep whatever we had on discontinuing, I'd reconsider.

I'm wondering if they would offer some sort of discount for people who subscribed for a good amount of time. So if that individual could not subscribe anymore, they would have an opportunity to buy the full features of whatever version is out at that time at a fair price.

You were always right. Faithlife want everyone to sign up to their 'membership' program. If you don't you will be treated as less important customer. They won't say it that way though as they will still be happy to take your money if you offer it to them regardless of whether you have signed up for the to provide the tools they tell you are required for your 'Faithlife'.
