Proclaim jumping multiple slides

We have observed an apparent bug in Proclaim. First, let me describe the set up we use.

Windows 7 Pro desktop with all updates
Proclaim (latest version)
Jade remote control (as recommended on Proclaim forum)
Proclaim wi-fi remote is disabled

What seems to happen is the preacher will go to advance the slides and Proclaim will rip through the rest of the presentation all the way through to the end of the show very rapidly. We have changed remotes and settings and it continues to happen almost weekly. Any idea what is causing it to respond that way? Or how to make it stop? It was only amusing the first time.

Also, although the Proclaim Remote function is set to "disabled" in the program settings, I can still tap "control" on my iPad and take over the show. We would like to get that completely shut off to eliminate it as a possibility. Thanks for your help in advance!

Hi Ryan, nothing in your log looks out of the ordinary. Expect of course for the rapid slide progression. What I mean is that from the logs everything looks right. All the slide changes came from Proclaim in what looks like a normal way. I don’t see any evidence of someone using the Proclaim Remote app to control the presentation at the time of the rapid slide changes. (I do see someone from your presentation group connect, but it doesn’t show him changing the slide using the Proclaim Remote)

This makes me wonder about the Jade remote itself. We have one here and it works well. I just tried it out and everything worked as expected. From your logs, it appear that the jade remote was sending a bunch of right arrow key presses over and over again.

Could your remote have a sticky key that could be causing issues? Are you farther away than or near the 150 foot range?

You could give your remote a quick test by opening a text file of some kind (or a word document) and watch the cursor move as you make presses on the remote. If you get into a state where the cursor is moving on its own then that would mean the remote is faulty. If you can never reproduce this issue outside of Proclaim then I guess we don’t know yet. I’m looking into adding some more logging to Proclaim for keyboard presses so if this issue occurs again in the future we may have some more information to go off of.

Also, since the jade remote is seen as a keyboard by your computer, you may be able to change settings in Windows with regard to repeating keys and how fast keys start to be repeated.

As for the Proclaim Remote, we don’t have a way to disable its use. Whether you can control a presentation or not is determined by Presentation group membership, so anyone who can can login to Proclaim and edit your presentations will be able to control them.

Thanks for the reply. I have not been able to reproduce the issue at all, including hitting all the buttons on the remote as rapidly as I can. It also has happened prior to the Jade remote, so I feel I can safely eliminate that, although I will try your suggestions.

I will follow up if I learn anything.

Hello again. We eliminated the remote app as a culprit and I cannot duplicate the behavior for the life of me, but Proclaim leaped again today from the middle straight to the end. I am at a loss.

My only grasp at a cause is that the sermon slides are typically being loaded in from a different workstation after the presentation is on air, which usually forces Proclaim to create a duplicate show, which we load before the service begins. Could that be causing some kind of odd error?

I attempted to adjust the repeat rate on the keyboard and mouse inputs as suggested, but no dice. If it continues to happen we will have to go back to PowerPoint because it is predictable. The tech is stealing too much attention.

Anyone out there experiencing this?

Sounds like the slides are not downloaded yet. If the media is not available, for instance if you added a PowerPoint as images from another machine, then proclaim will skip the non-downloaded slides When you try to navigate to it.

Does this sound probable? If so you may want to ensure you have all the slides imported before service. Or make sure someone forces a sync on the presenting computer before you get to the sermon portion.

Yes. It duplicates and adds a "(2)" at the end of the name of the presentation. But only if we are already On Air when slides are added.

That should not happen. It sounds like whoever is editing the presentation is using the “New from existing..” menu option which creates a duplicate of the presentation instead of Open. Could that be possible? We realize that this has caused some confusion and are actively adjusting these menus.

It is certainly possible. I would have to hover over the user's shoulder to say for certain one way or the other.

We will keep trying to solve it. And to try to over-sync prior to starting the service.

It just happened again. 10:51am. I will pull up the logs when I can. Loaded and synced slides yesterday.

It's only happening during powerpoint slides loaded as pictures.

Sorry to hear this Ryan. Can you confirm that you went through the presentation on the machine used during service and all slides we available? None were just blank or anything like that? Specifically the PowerPoint images?

Also, are your powerpoint images a single Image Slideshow with a bunch of images or a grouping of Content items?

Hello.

I used the very same machine for my test that was later used for the message in the service. The slides that seem to jump are imported as images from a powerpoint presentation.

One discovery we might have made is that the left click function on the remote might be sticking (although it has happened with two different remotes now). The left and right arrow keys don't seem to cause it to do that, just the left click via remote. We are trying to go without using that next Sunday and see if it makes a difference.

This is not a firm conclusion, but it appears that not using the trigger on the remote helps. Instead, we use the arrow keys. It has been behaving since we made that change. Not sure why that would cause the program to advance multiple slides, but that seems to have resolved the issue for us.

We experienced the same thing for the first time during our worship service yesterday. The sermon notes were created in PowerPoint on my home computer and imported as images to Proclaim. The presentation was synced to our church computer successfully as normal. But In the middle of the sermon notes slides at church, Proclaim advanced rapidly through the slides to the end. The tech navigated back to continue the slides in sequence. Then it happened again. We are not using a remote option at this time. We have not experienced any issues until now. Was this issue addressed? If so, what was the resolution?
