Home Page Thoughts
Just a few thoughts on the Home page and reading plans.
- The Home page at first appears to be nothing but a hodge podge of text "article snippets" Well that's what it is. But now that the infographics are starting to appear I find it quite a bit more readable because it's broken up.
- I would prefer that the whole blog article would be on the home page, rather than a teaser and link. That's just me.
- Why not incorporate the reading plan(s) that are active into the home page? of course I can click through but since you're automating so much anyway, pull the daily reading into the home page and I can read it along with the rest of the newspaper.
- Status Updates. If I'm indexing or downloading updates, why not make the first item on the home page a status update?
- One of the options under "customize" is "my logos messages" what are you planning on putting there?
- Now that I've selected my preferred bible, get it off the home page "ribbon".

Agreed it is a hodge podge....don't have infographics yet so can't say if it improves it for me.
I would prefer that the whole blog article would be on the home page, rather than a teaser and link. That's just me.
Not sure about that.... screeen size might influence usefulness of this ... kind of like the idea of opening up full artilce in a floating window on second screen so focussed on it alone, and not discrated by surrounding material... I think flexibility is the key cause we are all going to like slightly different things

I like this idea. I have a shortcut to the index log on my desktop and occasionally check where it is up to. When I see one of the interlinears, I nknow that I'm in for a very long wait.

Agreed. And I've done the same as Andrew, shifting it as far to the right as it will go. I'd also love to get the start a new reading plan off there as well. An the lectionary (though I have used the links there to start passage guides)

Even above my own suggestions Andrew I like this one. Contrary to some feedback here, I like the indexing feature - I love the fact that I just searched my entire 2600+ book library for an obscure word (paterology) in 0.31 seconds. I found one resource with five hits in it. The same search in Logos3 took about 15 minutes. To me it is worth it to spend the time up front indexing. To each their own.
My point is, that since Indexing is here (I think for the better) keeping a database based on automated feedback (something like: "click here to approve sending your statistics to Logos") would go a long way to soothing the angst new users will have.
With such a database first time run you'd be greeted with a dialog saying something like this:

Further:
Right now when customizing the home screen
1) You select your prefered bible from the icon at the top of the screen
2) You select your reading plan from the icon at the top of the screen
3) You select your lectionary by adjusting the number of stars in your library screen
4) You customize some of the content from the customize menu at the bottom
5) You can make a custom cup of coffee by rubbing your stomach patting your head and typing Juan Valdez in the command bar on the home page if you do all three at the same time.
Suggestion: Pick one method and go for it. I suggest the customize button since it is already needed, and it screams customization settings
a) Add the selection of the prefered bible here.
b) Add a selection of the prefered lectionary, and the option to turn it off
c) Add a selection of the preferred reading plan and the option to turn it off
d) Keep all the other stuff that is already there.

I'm not sure if you saw the other thread on the homepage or not but what Bob P was saying was that they are trying to avoid the "every minute detail is customizable" thing, to keep cost down and user tech calls to a minimum...so I'm guessing that things like "let me take certain articles out" is probably low on the totem pole.
As for myself; I like the homepage; nothing will ever be EXACTLY the way I'd have done it but...I have no problem with it.

Thanks, but I wasn't really referring to altering the Home page (articles and such) as much as the "Ribbon" if you will. Since the ribbon seems to be static (as opposed to dynamic like the "newspaper" homepage) it would be nice to be able to select which items appear there (like preferred lectionary, etc.). I'm not sure if this is any different to what you were referring to or not.

The features area at the top of the home page ("the ribbon") will offer a minimum of control by order, and probably by turning things on and off. And when it's done, you'll probably have more options there than spaces availables, making it easy to just "hide on the right" the things you're less interested in, while keeping them available if you want them.

I'd like to plea for an option to turn the Home Page button off. I can't tell you how many times I've already lost my work in L4 because I accidentally hit the home page & lost everything I'd done since the last time I saved my layout. Without a "go-back" option from the home page (there's none I can find), its current location invites work loss--at least for me.
Currently, I open to the home page. But that's only because I can't open to my preferred layout & start work.
Overall, I'm liking L4. But I'm not now & not going to be starting my work from the home page. And to suffer work loss just adds to the frustration...

I'd like to plea for an option to turn the Home Page button off. For the Reading Plan on the Home page it currently says:
Monday "Text to read"
Tuesday "Text to read"
Etc.
Instead of "Monday", it would be nice if it had the date.

I just edited a reading plan and I was behind so the Monday showed up, though it is Saturday, and it took me a second to figure out why since it only said Monday, with no date.

Good call Rob. I think after a week you start getting dates. I just checked my reading plans and one says Wednesday (today is Sat) and the other says September 14 in the first entry. While the third says "yesterday".
I think you'll get appropriate information to help you make sense of it. Though it might be kind of "fun" to have it say "last Monday" instead of just "Monday".

I agree that the page is a hodge podge of busy stuff. I like the infographics and I want some information about updates (both to software and resources).
How about adding some special pricing or special offers too.

This reminds me of the disclaimers they handed to me regarding Lasik eye surgery when I went in to see whether I was a good candidate. If I didn't know that they were having considerable success with it, I might have been inclined to tell them to forget it since I value being able to see reasonably well even though I need to wear contacts (Well, I could also wear glasses, but I dispise glasses).
