How do I enter Greek text and search for the string of Greek characters?

Hey, I would like to search for the Greek string ὑπὸ νόμον (under law) in all Greek resources. How do I do it? I can work on the collections aspect of it, but I've not gone to Camp Logos 2 yet to know how to work with the original language.

On a Mac, you can enter the breathings/accents. Should I? And, where?

I looked on the forum posts and found that one can type g:word, but it seems to work for one word. i'd prefer to enter the true Greek.

I can also go into the Windows version if something isn't ready in the UI.

Try Greek in "quotes". It should work because it works in English. Since it will find g:word, I don't think that accents matter at this stage.

I haven't used it because I'm still using L3 for serious language work until morphological searches are enabled. Then you will be able to search with lemmas which is far better.

And, exactly what I'm trying to check up on. I was reading a commentary by David Stern and I was interested in checking out his position.

If I only find it being used by Sha'ul, then his assessment is probably correct about legalism and the Law, not the Law itself, given Matthew 5:17.

1. How do you type Greek script? I don't find a Greek keyboard in L4 as in L3.

2. How does David get the "ὑπὸ νόμον" search he asked for? I tried g:"upo nomon" (searching NA27) and got no hits, though I can find at least two verses that have that phrase (by searching and English Bible and then looking at the Greek text).

1. If you are using a PC then download the Greek Polytonic System from Microsoft's website and follow the installation instructions. If you are using Mac then Instructions and a printable summary layout are at www.TyndaleHouse.co.uk/Fonts/Unicode.htm. Alternatively the Tyndale House site does have a setup for PC as well. All of these are free for personal use.

2. Using the Tyndale keyboard set up on my Mac I switched to Greek Keyboard and typed ὑπο νόμον and ran the search. You can see the results on the screenshot.

Jim, for entering greek characters on the Mac, go to the Edit menu in Logos (though this is system wide) and choose Special Characters. You will see all the scripts there. Go to European Scripts, choose Greek, and then you will the Greek Character set.

You place your cursor in the text box where you want the text to go, and then in the character palette, just double-click the characters you want. They will be inserted where the input caret is.

Here's another way:

Go to System Preferences > Language & Text > Input Sources, turn on the Greek keyboard (circled in the screenshot below) and makes sure that you've selected the 'Show Input menu in menu bar' button (see arrow, below):

When you've done this you can switch keyboards from the menu bar:

And use the Keyboard viewer while you learn which keys represent which characters:

This is particularly good fun when someone is looking over your shoulder in Starbucks! [:P]

Oh, thanks so much.

i'm hoping to facilitate a Greek class to "whosoever will" when I'm done with my own studies. This makes it so much easier than the method that I was previously doing to enter greek characters. I dreaded having to create material with that method.
