Advanced Academic Training Videos to be released soon!
Hi everyone, just wanted to let you know about a week ago I sent off the finished Advanced Academic Training Videos. So, hopefully they'll be available for download soon.
These were supposed to be 3 hours of videos, but I found it was simply impossible to do justice to using Verbum or Logos for academic use in 3 hours... so they are actually 4 hours, 30 minutes of training.
These are advanced videos, meant to help train people to use the software for academic purposes. They cover how to use the software for exegesis, theology, reception history, study of the Church Fathers, textual criticism, etc. They are based on the techniques Fr Andrew and I found most useful as we ourselves did our Scripture studies using Verbum and Logos.
Here is the final table of contents, which can give you a pretty good idea of what these videos cover:

You and Fr Andrew are to be applauded for the breadth of this offering. It is well worth the investment. Very much looking forward to this!
Meanwhile, Jesus kept on growing wiser and more mature, and in favor with God and his fellow man.

What a welcome surprise for a Monday afternoon to have Verbum update with the Advanced Academic Training Videos! Many thanks to you, Fr. Devin (and to Fr. Andrew) for the hard work. These training videos have been a tremendous help in using Verbum more robustly for my M.A. program. A hearty thanks to you both! God bless.

To what extent are these compatible with regular Logos and how much is focused on Verbum specifically?

These videos should apply to "regular" Logos but have a Catholic focus.

That's right. They are totally compatible with Logos, and they should be something that anyone interested in academic work will profit from, whether they are Catholic or Protestant. These videos try to present not only how to use Verbum/Logos, but also offer an introduction into academic methodology - with the first half centered on Biblical exegesis, and the second half centered on studying the Scriptures together with the Fathers, medieval, and modern authors. They have a Catholic flavor to them, but my hope is that Protestants will enjoy them just as much as Catholics!

Hello Father,
I'm moving through the video's and noticed something - not sure what may be an issue. On the Bible Word Studies 1, about 4:13 into the video, there seems to be reference on the screen that is falling out of view to the bottom. I think a blue circle is being drawn around something, but I can't see what it is. There dos not appear to be a way for me to scroll down and see it.
Do you have any thoughts about what may be happening on my screen?

Hi Steve. Verbum's video player bar is covering up part of the video!! This is a bug / bad design in the player. If you full screen it, it is almost perfect, although even there the Verbum / Logos video player is cutting off a small section of the image.
FYI, here is how that shot looks in the original video, for reference: http://i.imgur.com/89SdHtK.jpg
If you have a tablet or 2nd monitor, you could try watching the videos on the tablet / 2nd monitor full screen.
I'll make a post about the player bug.

Thank you both for the replies. I can see some improvement full screen but not quite as good as the original.

Follow-up question .... I'm attempting to view the video on my iPad; I've downloaded the videos, but when I try to open the one in question I see a blank screen and an "play arrow" with a line through it. Tapping does not start the video.
I tried the same with the Advanced Search Training and they come right up and play fine.
Here is what I am seeing:
Any ideas?

I cannot access the videos. They will not stream. I get a screen with a text"We couldn't access".
Downloading the videos works (but I noticed the sound is not synchrone with the video).

For me they are in sync when downloaded. I am using Windows 10, with VLC (I also tested with Media Player Classic). What program are you using?

I am unable to view these particular videos... "We couldn't access the media you're trying to play. Please verify that you are not working offline. For more troubleshooting this issue..." All other videos, such as Advanced Search Training are playing just fine.

It seems I already have the "Verbum Advanced Academic Training" videos. The table of contents looks the same as the one your laid out here. How is this different than what is already available? I have Logos 7 if that matters.
Thanks. BTW I've been watching the training videos and they are VERY instructive!

Users who have the videos through a base package got the videos a little early, so that is why you saw them appear already.
Thanks for the kind words!
BTW, for those who were having trouble on watching these on the iPad. They are now working for me on iOS. So, hopefully that problem is resolved!
