Daniel 14:43?
Dear Friends in Christ,
I am a Chinese Catholic and I really love studying the Scripture with Verbum. However, there are currently very few resources in Chinese, so I've decided to prepare the Chinese Bible as a Personal Book.
The Chinese Bible I want to prepare as a PB is the so-called Studium Biblicum Version (or Sigao, 思高聖經). It was was prepared by a Franciscan Friar in the early 20th century and mostly translated directly from the original Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek text. It is said to be very faithful, and so far it is the only approved Catholic Bible in the Chinese language.
While I was preparing my PB, I noticed there are 43 verses in Daniel 14, whereas all other Catholic Bibles have only 42 verses. See the Logos Bible Verse Maps here. (https://wiki.logos.com/Bible_Verse_Maps)
I double checked the verse and it is not like the translator had divided Dan 14:42 into two verses. No, Dan 14:43 in Sigao is an entirely new verse. Please see below for the original Chinese text and my very very poor English translation.
君王遂宣佈說:「全地的居民都應敬畏達尼爾的天主,因為他施救,在地上行了神蹟奇事,從獅子圈裡拯救了達尼爾。」
The King announced: "Inhabitants from all the earth should fear the God of Daniel, for He saves, having performed mighty deed on earth, saving Daniel from the den."
Therefore, my plea for help to you all is how can I find out which manuscript might have been used to give this extra verse 43? I know the manuscripts are "rated" and I just would like to find out more about this particular manuscript. Can someone please give me some advice? Many many thanks in advance.
P.S. I will be very happy to share the Chinese Bible PB with anybody who is interested.
Sincerely,
Joanna

This appears to be the text of 14:42 from the Vulgate, https://ref.ly/logosres/vulgataclem?ref=BibleVUL2.Da14.42
42 Tunc rex ait: Paveant omnes habitantes in universa terra Deum Danielis: quia ipse est salvator, faciens signa et mirabilia in terra: qui liberavit Danielem de lacu leonum.
It's translated in Douay-Rheims as, https://ref.ly/logosres/douayrheims?ref=BibleDR.Da14.42
42 Then the king said: Let all the inhabitants of the whole earth fear the God of Daniel: for he is the Saviour, working signs, and wonders in the earth: who hath delivered Daniel out of the lions’ den.
According to Haydock's Catholic Bible Commentary, https://ref.ly/logosres/haycathbblcom?ref=BibleVUL.Da14.42
Ver. 42. Then, &c. is not in Greek nor in the ancient MSS. of S. Jerom. The verse may be taken from C. 2:26. C.
I can't find any Bible that calls this verse Daniel 14:43, though. I wonder if it's an addition of the Vulgate verse to the NAB/NJB versification for Daniel 14? NAB/NJB Has an "extra" verse Daniel 14:1, then Daniel 14:2-42 is the same as VUL Daniel 14:1-41. Vulgate adds v42, which would have to become v43 if you started with the NAB's Greek text.

Thank you so much, Bradley! That solves my problem!
So just to make sure I've understood you correctly, Sigao accepted the "extra" Dan 14:1 from NAB/NJB, as well as Dan 14:42 from VUL2/D-R, and resulting in a book of 43 verses, correct?
Wow, this is really interesting!

This is purely a guess on my part. Since I don't have that Chinese Bible (and don't read Chinese!) I'm unable to verify. [:)] But you should be able to line the text up against both NAB/NJB and D-R and see if the text of the verses matches up with that theory.
Assuming it does, I don't know of any other Bible (English or otherwise) that uses that versification, so I'm unable to tell you how to encode it in Logos.
